Senior Laboratory Operations Leader
A premier global biopharmaceutical organization is seeking an experienced professional to oversee their research facility in Durham, North Carolina. This dual-impact role combines high-level laboratory management with active participation in scientific research projects focused on oncology and neuroscience.
The successful candidate will spend approximately 60 percent of their time managing the daily functions of the research laboratory. This includes supervising equipment life cycles from procurement to calibration, managing specialized inventory, and ensuring strict adherence to biosafety and OSHA standards. You will also oversee the operational budget, manage vendor relationships, and work closely with facilities and EH&S departments to optimize space and workflows.
The remaining 40 percent of the role is dedicated to scientific contribution. You will support therapeutic pipelines by performing hands-on in vitro research, with a specific focus on biochemical assays and screening platforms. Responsibilities include managing mammalian cell cultures, validating targets, and documenting findings within electronic lab notebooks. You will also represent the team by presenting data at internal meetings and contributing to scientific publications.
Candidates should possess a Master of Science or PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field, though equivalent professional experience will be considered. A proven track record of managing a research lab within the biotech or pharmaceutical industry is essential. Technical proficiency in mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques is required, while experience with oncology research and screening platforms is highly desirable.
This is a full-time, on-site position based in Durham. The role requires the ability to perform standard laboratory tasks, including standing at biosafety cabinets for extended periods and occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds.
