Job Overview
We’re currently looking for a high caliber professional to join our team as a Senior Java Developer, Vice President. The Cross Asset Margin technology teams actively develop and enhance a set of cooperative, strategic systems and services that are regulatory driven and have a direct bearing on how Citi Capital Markets manages risk arising from trading, including both market and counterparty credit risks. The role is responsible for calculating margin requirements for OTC bilateral derivatives and optimizing margin requirements for clients by considering offsets across various financial products using models such as VaR, SIMM and Credit Stress. It supports traders, salespeople, risk managers, financial controllers and operations staff. The Senior Java developer is responsible for establishing and implementing new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team, leading application systems analysis, design and programming activities, and managing a team to drive a variety of engineering activities.
Responsibilities
- Provide expertise and advanced knowledge of application programming, ensuring designs adhere to the overall architecture blueprint.
- Develop coding, testing, debugging and implementation standards for system flow.
- Understand how business areas such as architecture and infrastructure integrate to achieve business goals.
- Guide the team to establish design standards to improve development workflow and product rollout efficiency.
- Take ownership of smooth production release planning and execution.
- Oversee software quality and system modifications.
- Serve as a coach to mid-level developers and analysts, allocating work as necessary.
- Analyze existing operations to identify risks and redundancies.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to develop solutions.
- Liaise with team members and management to ensure projects meet application development and governance standards.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and developments.
- Resolve high-impact problems through in-depth evaluation of complex business and system processes.
- Appropriately assess risk in business decisions, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations and Citi’s policies.
Qualifications
- 6–10 years of relevant experience in an applications development role with hands‑on coding.
- Demonstrated thought leadership in designing complex and distributed systems.
- In‑depth knowledge of Java, Spring, Kafka, and distributed cache or systems such as Apache Ignite.
- Hands‑on experience with relational databases such as Oracle.
- Strong exposure to microservices architecture.
- API‑first design thinking and implementation experience.
- Experience building applications on cloud platforms such as Docker, Kubernetes or OpenShift.
- Proven implementation of design patterns and enterprise‑level architecture.
- Expertise in CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with GenAI developer productivity tools.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Capacity to multi‑task and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- UI tech stack knowledge is an advantage.
- Understanding of risk calculations such as VaR/SIMM and ability to work with the Quant team is preferred.
Primary Location: Jersey City, New Jersey, United States
Full‑time salary range: $142,320.00 – $213,480.00.
