Senior Java Backend / Full-Stack Engineer

Location: Roanoke, VA (Local candidates preferred / based in/around Roanoke, VA)

Work Model: Hybrid – 3-4 Days Onsite / 2 Days Remote

We are seeking an experienced Senior Java / Spring Boot Backend Engineer with strong full‑stack capabilities to join our dynamic software engineering team.

In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain high-performance microservices, RESTful APIs, and cloud‑native backend systems while contributing to core data architecture and automated infrastructure pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Backend API Development: Design, build, and deploy robust, scalable RESTful APIs and microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
• Database & Data Architecture: Lead schema design, query optimization, and management of relational and non‑relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL).
• Cloud & Infrastructure: Leverage AWS services (S3, Lambda, EC2, CloudWatch, etc.) and continuous delivery pipelines to deploy resilient services.
• Code Quality & Testing: Implement comprehensive unit and integration test coverage, perform code reviews, and maintain clean, production‑ready code in an Agile/Scrum environment.
• System Design & Automation: Collaborate with cross‑functional teams on database architecture, cloud infrastructure, and backend integrations.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Experience: 8–9+ years of hands‑on software development experience with JVM‑based technologies.
• Core Tech Stack: Advanced proficiency in Java and Spring Boot microservices architecture.
• Databases: Strong, hands‑on experience in Database Design , schema modeling, and SQL/NoSQL platforms (PostgreSQL, MySQL).
• Cloud Native: Deep hands‑on expertise with AWS core services.
• API & Messaging: Proven experience creating RESTful APIs, implementing robust unit tests, and working with event‑driven messaging systems (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka).
• Location: Must be physically located in or willing to work out of the Roanoke, VA area.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Hands‑on experience with Terraform or Infrastructure as Code (IaC) templates.
• Proficiency with Python for scripting, data pipelines, or workflow automation.
• Exposure to front‑end frameworks (e.g., Angular, TypeScript) for full‑stack versatility when needed.
• Prior experience with middleware/integration platforms (MuleSoft/Mule layer).
