Do you enjoy working in a fast-pace Remote-Centered envi ronment with variety in your work? The California Department of Insurance (CDI) is seeking a dynamic Senior Insurance Examiner (Supervisor)to supervise, plan, and direct the work of a staff of insurance examiners.
Under the general direction of the Supervising Insurance Examiner, the Senior Insurance Examiner (Supervisor) supervises, plans, and directs the work of a staff of insurance examiners in conducting examinations of insurance companies and other regulated entities to determine their financial status, solvency, and the legality and propriety of their operations; plans, directs and conducts the examinations of the largest and most complex insurance companies; trains field examiners in performing examinations and oversees the work of the IT examiners; and performs required administrative tasks. The incumbent shall maintain the Accredited Financial Examiner or Certified Financial Examiner certification conferred by the Society of Financial Examiners.
This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code. The position is responsible for making or participating in governmental decisions that may potentially have a material effect on personal financial interests. The appointee is required to complete a Statement of Economic Interest (Form 700), which includes an Assuming Office filing within 30 days of appointment, annual filings, and a Leaving Office filing within 30 days of physical separation. Non-compliance with the Conflict of Interest Code requirements may result in the voiding of appointment, financial penalties, or enforcement actions.
Effective July 1, 2025, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025 and related Pay Differential 386. PLP 2025 requires employees to receive a reduction in pay in exchange for monthly hours of PLP 2025 leave credits. Working Conditions
- Able to multi-task and work under time pressures and deadlines.
- Willing to shift work hours as needed depending on the work needs.
- Work in a cubicle or office setting involving noise from office machines, worker conversations, and other distractions resulting from open space work environment.

- Reaching, bending, stretching, and stooping will be required.
- The incumbent may telework in accordance with CDI's Telework Policy. Teleworking employees may be required to report to their headquarters office location on designated telework days. Travel expenses are not reimbursed, however other authorized transit subsidies do exist for those who qualify.
- Some travel may require the Supervisor to use private and/or public modes of transportation (i.e., automobile, commercial airlines, etc.).
- The Supervisor must possess a valid California driver's license and be able to safely drive and operate a private passenger automobile when traveling on official state business.

Desirable Qualifications
- Experience in leading, training, and supervising accounting and auditing staff.
- Experience in writing and editing examination reports.
- Experience in presenting to peers, management, and company personnel.
- Possess accounting knowledge and experience in analyzing financial situations accurately and adopting an effective course of action.
- Experience in working with and possess knowledge of the California Insurance Code, Bulletins, Title 10 of the California Code of Regulations, statutory accounting practices prescribed by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
- Experience in maintaining cooperative relations with those contacted in the work
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience and knowledge of Human Resource policies and procedures in a Supervisory Role
- Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks efficiently and in a timely manner.
- Designation as a Certified Financial Examiner with the Society of Financial Examiners is preferred.
