Job Overview
Field Engineer – Instrumentation in Freeport, TX. Provide construction site engineering expertise and technical support during project execution. Responsible for interpreting engineering designs, resolving field issues, coordinating instrumentation construction activities, and ensuring installation and testing activities are performed in accordance with project specifications, industry standards, and quality requirements. Serves as a key interface between engineering, construction, quality, and commissioning teams.
Responsibilities
- Deliver instrumentation engineering services that meet Worley, client, and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, on time and within budget.
- Interpret and analyze instrumentation drawings, specifications, loop diagrams, hook-ups, cable schedules, datasheets, and engineering deliverables to ensure constructability and compliance with project requirements.
- Provide field engineering support for the installation of instrumentation systems, including transmitters, analyzers, control valves, tubing systems, junction boxes, marshalling cabinets, and associated wiring.
- Evaluate field conditions and implement design modifications or recommendations necessary to accommodate site requirements while maintaining compliance with engineering intent.
- Support construction supervision activities and verify that instrumentation installation work is executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and applicable codes and standards.
- Coordinate with project engineers, construction management, quality personnel, vendors, and commissioning teams to ensure timely execution of instrumentation activities.
- Review and resolve Requests for Information (RFIs), field change notices, and technical queries associated with instrumentation systems.
- Perform field inspections and quality checks to verify proper installation, calibration, and completion of instrumentation systems.
- Lead the execution of instrumentation and control engineering activities on assigned projects or project scopes.
- Support project planning and delivery, including participation in relevant meetings, preparation of progress reports, and compliance with required checking and quality assurance procedures.
- Provide technical input and support during procurement, construction, and commissioning phases, including preparation and review of requisitions, technical bid evaluations, review of vendor documentation and purchase orders.
- Coordinate instrumentation engineering activities with multidisciplinary teams (process, electrical, mechanical, piping, automation) to ensure integrated project delivery.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, and project stakeholders.
Technical & Industry Experience
- Demonstrated experience delivering instrumentation and control engineering work on industrial projects such as energy, mining, chemicals, or infrastructure.
- Working knowledge of engineering systems, workflows, and document management tools.
- Experience participating in process safety and operability studies (i.e., HAZOP, LOPA) and implementing outcomes into engineering design.
- Strong working knowledge of Instrumentation & Control deliverables, including junction box and marshalling panel design, P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, instrument location drawings, motor control and interconnection schematics, instrument installation details, instrument datasheets and specifications, I/O lists, bills of material, cable, conduit, and tray schedules, control narratives and philosophies, cause & effect diagrams, material requisitions, construction and engineering work packages.
- Knowledge of instrumentation selection and application, including flow measurement (orifice, vortex, venturi, magnetic, ultrasonic), level measurement (radar, displacers, gauges), temperature measurement (including thermowell design and frequency wake calculations), and pressure measurement.
Required Education, Qualifications & Accreditation
- Accredited Engineering Degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical or related discipline.
- Solid experience in instrumentation and control engineering roles on multidisciplinary projects.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, review, and interpret I&C designs, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Strong communication, coordination, and analytical skills.
