The Role
McKnight International is seeking a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer with a strong backend focus to support the enhancement and modernization of a mission-critical financial system.
This is a backend-focused role and requires strong, hands-on development in C# and .NET Core.
The role focuses on building, optimizing, and maintaining SQL Server-driven systems that support financial operations and reporting.
The ideal candidate will be able to step into a complex environment and contribute immediately, working across backend services, data processing, and system integrations while supporting ongoing modernization efforts.
Requirements
Leadership Scope
- Serve as a hands-on technical contributor supporting backend development and system modernization
- Participate in internal and client-facing discussions related to system enhancements and priorities
- Contribute to backend architecture, including APIs, data workflows, and system integrations
- Support continuous improvement of system performance, reliability, and scalability
Essential Job Functions
- Design, develop, and maintain backend applications using C# and .NET Core
- Build and integrate RESTful APIs across internal and external systems
Develop and optimize SQL Server databases, including:
- Stored procedures
- Support and enhance a financial system with high data volume and operational complexity
- Perform unit testing, integration testing, and participate in code reviews
- Support application deployments, troubleshooting, and production stability
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including business analysts, project managers, and infrastructure teams
- Translate business requirements into scalable backend solutions
Supplemental Functions
- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Support performance optimization across applications and databases
- Contribute to system documentation and knowledge sharing
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex backend and data-related issues
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in software development with a strong backend focus
- Strong, recent experience with C# and .NET Core (last 1–2 roles)
Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including:
- Stored procedures
- Performance tuning
- Data-heavy backend systems
- Experience developing and integrating REST APIs
- Experience working within enterprise or financial systems environments
- Experience with microservices architecture preferred
- Experience working in Azure environments preferred
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Nice-to-Have Experience
- Experience with financial systems or reporting platforms
- Experience supporting legacy system modernization initiatives
- Experience working in regulated or compliance-driven environments
Certifications & Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field required
- Equivalent experience may be considered
Physical, Schedule & Eligibility Requirements
- Full-time position
- Hybrid/on-site presence required based on project needs and client approval
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Reliable transportation to and from assigned work location(s) required
Annual base salary range (Philadelphia market): $90,000–$140,000, with final compensation based on experience, technical skill level, and project requirements, in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local pay equity laws.
