We're looking to expand our team across the board.York Space Systems is seeking a Senior Frontend Software Engineer who is passionate about building software that pushes the bounds of what's possible. Our software is a modern web-based application (React/TypeScript, C# .NET) with a microservice infrastructure (Docker, Kafka, REST) that operators use to monitor and control constellations of spacecraft across several active missions.As a senior member of the team, you'll own the frontend experience end-to-end, from design system management to the real-time telemetry dashboards that satellite operators depend on in high-stakes environments. You'll partner closely with UI/UX, backend engineers, and operators to build interfaces that are fast, reliable, and intuitive under pressure, tackling difficult problems like:Visualizing live satellite state across a constellationSurfacing alerts during critical mission windowsDesigning workflows to transfer data between air-gapped environmentsEnsuring full UI functionality during the transfer of control between Mission Operation CentersYou'll also drive frontend best practices across the team and help junior engineers grow their craft.Prior space-industry experience is not required.Team size: 6-8 developersRemote Policy: Hybrid (4 days in office)ResponsibilitiesLead development of user-facing features using TypeScript and React, collaborating closely with UI/UX and backend engineers to deliver cohesive, performant experiencesTranslate designs and requirements into high-quality, maintainable code that meets both functional and visual standardsBuild and own reusable components, shared libraries, and design systems that scale across the platformEngineer frontend algorithms and business logic to support scalability, automation, and near-real-time data presentationWrite unit tests and documentation for internal users and customersParticipate in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, standups, and retrospectivesOther duties as assignedTeam LeadershipCollaborate with engineers, operators, UI/UX, and customers across departmentsMentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and design discussionsContribute to sprint planning, technical scoping, and cross-team alignment on feature workHelp establish and advocate for frontend best practices and design system standards across the teamRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field6+ years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on frontend and web application developmentDeep proficiency in modern React, including component architecture, performance optimization, and state management patternsStrong expertise in TypeScript and its application in large-scale frontend codebasesExperience building and maintaining design systems and shared component librariesProficiency with common front-end tooling such as Yarn, Babel, and Material-UIExperience with Git in a collaborative, multi-contributor environmentFamiliarity with backend APIs and the ability to design and consume REST APIs effectivelyDemonstrated ability to mentor engineers and drive frontend code quality through reviews and design discussionsProven ability to collaborate across engineering, UI/UX, and operational stakeholdersExceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguous requirements independently and drive to resolutionStrong verbal and written communication skills, including presenting technical concepts to non-technical audiencesAbility to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environmentActive security clearance or ability to obtain onePreferred QualificationsExperience with modern state management tools such as TanStack QueryExperience with WebAssembly (WASM) for performance-critical frontend workloadsExperience with WebGL or other canvas-based rendering for data-rich environmentsExperience with offline-first development architecture and local data synchronization strategiesIn compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required.
