Senior Forward Deployed Data Engineer
Duodata | Full-time | Remote, United States
Annual base salary: $160,000 to $185,000, plus equity participation
Target start: January 2027, with flexibility by agreement
Build and deploy reliable data solutions with customers and AI agents
Duodata helps business and data teams agree on what their metrics mean and carry those definitions into their data platforms, analytics tools and AI applications.
We’re hiring a Senior Forward Deployed Data Engineer to work directly with customers and turn complex data challenges into reliable production solutions. You’ll own the technical path from discovery and prototyping through implementation, deployment and customer adoption.
AI agents are central to how we want to deliver this work. You should already have hands-on experience building agent workflows and improving their reliability. You’ll apply that experience to data modeling, pipeline development, troubleshooting and testing, while taking responsibility for the resulting code and business outcomes.
As an early member of the team, you’ll work closely with our founders and product engineers. What you learn in customer environments will help shape Duodata’s product and the tools we use to deliver future implementations.
What you’ll do
- Work directly with customer engineers and business stakeholders to understand their workflows, define implementation scope and agree on measurable acceptance criteria.
- Build working prototypes, validate them with customers and develop them into tested, observable production solutions.
- Design and implement data models, pipelines and integrations using SQL and Python across modern cloud data platforms.
- Build and improve agent workflows for development, troubleshooting and testing. Configure the context, metadata and tools they need, with appropriate permissions and safeguards for customer data.
- Review generated code and architecture decisions, investigate failures and implement fixes directly when needed.
- Develop automated tests and evaluations covering business logic, data quality, integration behavior and performance.
- Establish clear boundaries for autonomous action, human approval and escalation. Expand those boundaries as testing and operational evidence demonstrate reliability.
- Own technical delivery through deployment, documentation and handover, helping customers adopt and operate the resulting solutions.
- Identify patterns across customer engagements and turn them into reusable integrations, agent workflows and product improvements with the engineering team.
Your work will include Duodata implementations and customer data-engineering projects. You’ll stay close to the code, understand how customers use what you build and follow through on delivery.
What you’ll bring
- Strong SQL skills and practical experience designing maintainable data models and reliable pipelines.
- Production Python experience, including testing, debugging and working with APIs or data integrations.
- Experience delivering solutions on Snowflake, Databricks or a comparable cloud data platform.
- Hands-on experience building or configuring multi-step AI agent workflows for real engineering tasks. You can explain how you supplied context, connected tools, evaluated results and improved reliability.
- The ability to inspect generated code, challenge assumptions and verify that a solution meets its intended business requirements.
- Sound engineering practices around version control, deployment, observability and secure data handling.
- Evidence of owning customer-facing technical work from an ambiguous initial requirement through implementation and handover.
- Clear communication with engineers and business stakeholders, including explaining tradeoffs, managing scope and communicating risks.
You’re comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and adjusting priorities as you learn. You enjoy working alongside customers, improving how a small team operates and taking responsibility for following through.
Experience in forward-deployed engineering, technical consulting or customer-facing product engineering is helpful. Relevant technical experience may include agent evaluation frameworks, semantic layers, business metrics, dbt, Power BI or Microsoft Fabric. We value strong engineering fundamentals and demonstrated learning ability; expertise in every tool is unnecessary.
What success looks like
In your first three months, you’ll learn our product and delivery approach, take ownership of a scoped customer implementation and deliver a validated data solution. You’ll also establish a reusable agent workflow with clear tests and review boundaries.
Over time, you’ll independently lead technical delivery and help customers get lasting value from what we build. We’ll assess progress through customer adoption, solution reliability and delivery efficiency. Your work should also make subsequent implementations easier through reusable engineering and actionable product feedback.
Compensation and benefits

Benefits are subject to applicable eligibility requirements and plan terms.
How to apply
Apply through LinkedIn with your résumé or LinkedIn profile.
Please include a short project example, approximately 150 words, in your résumé or application notes where available. Describe an AI agent workflow you personally built or substantially improved: the task it performed, your contribution, the tools it used, and one failure you diagnosed. Explain how you tested the fix.
An anonymized description is welcome. Please exclude confidential information. A public repository or new project is not required. If the application form cannot accommodate your example, we’ll discuss it during the introductory conversation.
We expect to accept applications through November 20, 2026, reviewing them as they arrive. We’ll update this posting if the deadline changes.
Our process includes an introductory conversation, a practical technical assessment and discussions with the founders. We’ll explain the stages upfront.
