New Space Technical is partnering with an innovative space technology company developing advanced spacecraft and autonomous systems for next-generation space missions. They are looking for a Senior Flight Software Engineer to lead the development of the embedded Linux platform powering mission-critical onboard computing systems.
This is an exciting opportunity to own the low-level flight software stack for a high-performance embedded computing platform supporting autonomy, communications, perception and control systems. Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will develop reliable, high-performance software for deployment in demanding space environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and develop the embedded Linux flight software platform, including the Linux kernel, boot chain, Board Support Package (BSP) and device drivers.
- Develop, maintain and extend Linux Board Support Packages for ARM-based embedded computing platforms.
- Configure and manage device trees, pin multiplexing and hardware interfaces.
- Develop interface software for peripherals including CAN, RS-485, USB, CSI and Ethernet-connected devices.
- Design and maintain secure, reliable over-the-air software update capabilities.
- Develop fault detection, fault recovery and system monitoring features to maximise software reliability.
- Collaborate closely with flight software, autonomy, robotics and hardware engineers to integrate software across the complete system architecture.
- Support software verification, integration, testing and deployment throughout the development lifecycle.
Required Experience
- 5+ years of professional experience developing embedded Linux software at the kernel, driver or BSP level.
- Deep understanding of the Linux kernel, boot process and embedded Linux architecture.
- Experience developing and debugging device trees and hardware configuration for ARM-based platforms.
- Strong experience working with serial communications, CAN and Ethernet interfaces.
- 5+ years of professional experience programming in C.
- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience developing flight software or software for aerospace systems.
- Experience developing software for autonomous, robotic or remotely operated platforms.
- Experience with NVIDIA Jetson or similar embedded computing platforms.
- Experience with Linux file systems such as ZFS.
- Experience developing high-reliability or fault-tolerant software.
- Experience building software for safety-critical or mission-critical applications.
- Proven track record of delivering robust software within fast-paced engineering environments.
