Finance Manager – Project Controls & Business Finance

Greater Charlotte Area | Hybrid

Our client is seeking a Finance Manager to lead the financial oversight of a complex, project-driven business. This role is ideal for a finance professional who excels in project controlling, operational finance, and partnering with leadership to drive profitability and performance.

This is not a traditional accounting role. The successful candidate will serve as the financial lead for large-scale projects, ensuring accurate forecasting, cost control, risk management, cash flow visibility, and overall project financial performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all aspects of project controlling, including project budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, revenue recognition, and profitability analysis
• Partner with project managers and operational leaders to monitor project performance and improve financial outcomes
• Develop and maintain project financial models, KPIs, and reporting dashboards
• Analyze project variances and provide actionable recommendations to improve margins and operational efficiency
• Support contract reviews, risk assessments, and change order analysis from a financial perspective
• Drive forecasting, annual budgeting, and long-range planning processes
• Oversee cash flow forecasting and working capital management across project portfolios
• Provide management with timely financial reporting and strategic insights to support decision-making
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls, and reporting capabilities

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
• 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience
• Significant experience in project controlling, project finance, or project-based business environments
• Strong understanding of project accounting, financial analysis, forecasting, and performance reporting
• Experience supporting large-scale projects within industrial, engineering, manufacturing, construction, infrastructure, or related industries preferred
• Advanced Excel and financial modeling capabilities
• CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred
• Proven ability to influence business leaders through data-driven insights
