Onsite Full Time Design & Development

The Connectivity Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end design, coordination, and implementation of physical fiber connectivity across Metro Ring markets, long-haul (LH) routes, and inter-market routing infrastructure. This role serves as the primary owner of splice design and physical connection implementation, ensuring seamless network continuity from market endpoints through midpoints, data centers, and in-line amplifier (ILA) sites.

Key Responsibilities

Network Connectivity Design

  • Design connectivity solutions for Metro Ring markets, including long-haul routes between markets, capacity design hand-offs to midpoints, data centers, and ILA sites
  • Develop and maintain inter-market routing designs to support current and future network demand
  • Assign circuits to strands within markets in close coordination with cross-functional teams including Network Infrastructure Engineering (NIE), Sourcing Managers, Design & Structural Engineering (DSE), and Fiber Design Engineering (FDE)

A-to-Z Physical Connection Ownership

  • Take full ownership of splice design and implementation for all circuit connections from origin to destination
  • Focus on Long-Range Turnover Planning and Ordering Readiness (LR-TPOR) to proactively stay ahead of network demand and capacity requirements

Strand Connection Order Management

  • Partner with the Sourcing Managers team to identify and resolve gaps in circuit A-to-Z continuity by coordinating strand connection orders as needed
  • Design and implement ILA pre-term installations to ensure readiness for future network activation and capacity growth

Splice Design Implementation & Management

  • Manage the full lifecycle implementation of all splice designs for Metro Ring markets, long-haul ties, and ad-hoc routing requirements
  • Ensure splice designs meet quality standards and are delivered on schedule to support network deployment timelines

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience in fiber optic network design, connectivity planning, or outside plant (OSP) engineering
  • Understanding of splice design, fiber strand management, and physical layer network architecture
  • Familiarity with circuit routing, ILA sites, and long-haul fiber infrastructure
  • Strong cross-functional coordination skills with the ability to work across multiple engineering and delivery teams
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent design and implementation projects.

Preferred

  • Experience with network capacity planning and demand forecasting
  • Knowledge of fiber splicing standards, OTDR testing, and fiber characterization
  • Background working within large-scale data center or hyperscale network environments.
  • Proficiency with GIS tools, fiber management systems, or network design platforms

Core Competencies

  • Technical Expertise - Deep understanding of physical fiber connectivity and network topology
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration - Proven ability to coordinate across NIE, Sourcing Managers, DSE, and FDE teams
  • Proactive Planning - Forward-thinking approach to stay ahead of demand (Long Range Planning focus)
  • Ownership & Accountability - End-to-end ownership of designs from concept through implementation
  • Problem Solving - Ability to identify and resolve continuity gaps and routing challenges.
