Compensation: $140,000 - $190,000 / year

Description

The primary function of the Senior Estimator is to be the lead estimator on GMP and Hard Bid efforts, developing conceptual estimates based on schematic plans along with supporting team members on multiple preconstruction efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead estimator on GMP and Hard Bid efforts; develop conceptual estimates based on schematic plans and support preconstruction efforts with the team.
  • Collaborate with project engineers, project managers, project administrators, superintendents and project executives; comment on the effectiveness of each role.
  • Understand CPM schedules and milestones; interpret procurement lead times, schedule activity durations, and critical path; comment on the effectiveness of schedules used in estimating.
  • Identify constructability issues and offer value analysis at Design Development and Construction Document design phases.
  • Understand WEO requirements and how they relate to project budgets; manage bid day organization and risk appropriately.
  • Develop subcontractor scopes from plans, specs, and site logistics; prepare information for bid day use by the team.
  • Analyze subcontractor proposals, identify scope items, differences and exclusions with cost implications.
  • Develop subcontractor relationships and select appropriate subcontractors to gain competitive advantages.
  • Estimate at any stage of construction documents with adequate subcontractor input and historical data to compensate for missing information.
  • Track and explain cost differences between progress estimates; anticipate client needs.
  • Understand unit pricing, systems pricing, contingencies, and budgeting using historical data and current market conditions.
  • Assess and propose material alternatives; foresee scope and plug gaps not shown on conceptual plans.
  • Understand GC overhead, fee structures, and owner/contractor risk management; input insurance costs and bond considerations as applicable.
  • Manage and communicate scope of work for Subcontract agreements; fill gaps creatively.
  • Strategically consider market factors; gather information, analyze issues, and make sound judgments.
  • Innovate with ideas and approaches; use technical expertise and business understanding to drive outcomes.
  • Develop proposals covering a wide range of formats in response to RFPs to meet Owner needs.

Qualifications

Four-year degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or equivalent experience; 5+ years of relevant professional experience working with a Subcontractor or General Contractor in estimating.

Software & Systems

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Outlook for calendars and email.
  • Cloud storage management (Box, Dropbox); collaboration tools (WebEx, Skype for Business).
  • Bid management: BidMail; BIM 360 Glue; PlanGrid; Bluebeam Revu.
  • Basic scheduling understanding; CMiC familiarity; construction administration processes (documents, schedules, RFIs, submittals, procurement).

Creates innovative solutions through software to improve systems and trains peers in their use. Excellent verbal and written communication; effective time management and organization. Completion of OSHA 30-Hour Safety Course and First Aid/CPR certification are preferred.

Physical Demands

Ability to climb stairs and ladders, operate in construction environments, and perform tasks requiring fine and gross motor skills. Vision requirements include close, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities.

Work Environment

On-site construction environments with exposure to moving mechanical parts, heights, fumes, weather, and noise. Core responsibilities may be expanded to support professional growth, while remaining accountable for primary duties.
