Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Environmental Project Manager to join a collaborative environmental consulting team based in Marietta, Ohio .

This is a senior-level opportunity for an environmental professional with strong, hands-on experience managing CERCLA and/or RCRA Corrective Action projects , including technical, regulatory, client-management, and project-leadership responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will bring approximately 8+ years of progressively increasing technical and regulatory responsibility , along with current and active client relationships, business development experience, and demonstrated leadership in regulatory negotiations and environmental project management.

Candidates based in Ohio are preferred. Candidates in nearby markets such as Louisville, Lexington, Indianapolis, or potentially Pittsburgh may also be considered, provided they can regularly travel to Ohio client and project sites within approximately a half-day drive .

Compensation

• Target base salary: $125,000-$150,000
• Maximum base salary: Approximately $170,000 for a highly qualified candidate
• Travel: Approximately 10-20% on average, with travel potentially reaching 25%

Key Screening Criteria

• Progressive CERCLA/RCRA Technical & Regulatory Experience

Approximately 8 years of progressively increasing individual technical and regulatory responsibility and ownership of RCRA Corrective Action and/or CERCLA project planning and management.

Experience May Include

• Authoring CERCLA and/or RCRA investigation plans and reports, both independently and as part of a team.
• Environmental investigation and characterization.
• Remedial evaluation and alternatives analysis.
• Remedy selection.
• Remedy implementation.
• Operations and maintenance activities.
• Regulatory interaction and project management.
• Developing project objectives, work plans, schedules, and budgets.
• Managing environmental projects from investigation through remediation and/or closure.

Location & Ability to Travel

The candidate must be located where they can realistically and consistently travel to Ohio client and project sites within approximately a half-day drive.

Ohio-based candidates are preferred, but candidates may also be considered from locations such as:

• Louisville, KY
• Lexington, KY
• Indianapolis, IN
• Pittsburgh, PA
• Other nearby locations where regular travel to Ohio is practical

Long-distance commuting is not desirable. The position requires proactive interaction with client representatives located in and around Ohio.

Current Client Relationships & Business Development

The successful candidate must demonstrate direct, current, and active client relationships and experience with business development.

Job Description

The organization provides engineering and environmental consulting services to industry, development, and government clients throughout the United States.

The Senior Environmental Project Manager will play a key role in identifying, developing, and managing environmental and engineering projects and proposals. The position will involve technical research and analysis, regulatory evaluation, project planning, field investigation oversight, laboratory analysis, client management, staff leadership, and business development.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to manage a diverse range of environmental projects involving regulatory analysis and decision-making, compliance assurance, environmental investigation, remediation, and problem-solving related to environmental protection.

Projects may involve returning impacted properties to productive and safe commercial, industrial, and/or residential use.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, or another relevant science field.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 8 years of direct, practical experience with RCRA and/or CERCLA environmental investigation and remediation projects.
• Demonstrated progressively increasing project management and technical responsibilities.
• Strong understanding of EPA, CERCLA, and RCRA regulations.
• Demonstrated experience interacting with regulators and managing regulatory requirements.
• Current and active client relationships within the environmental consulting industry.
• Demonstrated business development and client-development experience.
• Experience expanding existing client accounts and pursuing new project opportunities.
• Professional Geologist (PG) or Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
• Strong people, project, and client management skills.
• Experience leading and mentoring junior and mid-level technical staff.
• Strong commitment to safety and quality.
• Knowledge of quantitative and technical analyses and related software.
• Excellent written, verbal, and public-speaking communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify, develop, and manage environmental and engineering consulting projects and proposals.
• Manage CERCLA and/or RCRA Corrective Action projects from planning through investigation, evaluation, remediation, and operations/maintenance as applicable.
• Perform complex technical and regulatory analyses.
• Identify and manage project risks.
• Conduct environmental research and analysis.
• Plan, schedule, supervise, and manage field investigations and laboratory analyses.
• Interpret environmental data and prepare technical reports.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
• Participate in business development activities and pursue new clients.
• Develop additional work within existing projects and client relationships.
• Utilize established professional relationships to identify and develop new project opportunities.
• Attend business development meetings with new and existing clients.
• Participate in client meetings and proactively maintain relationships with client representatives in Ohio and surrounding markets.
• Provide direct oversight and management of mid-level and junior staff assigned to projects.
• Coach, mentor, and develop project team members.
• Participate in interviewing and hiring technical staff.
• Provide leadership during regulatory negotiations and interactions under CERCLA and/or RCRA.
• Support regulatory activities including permit applications, CERCLA ARAR analysis, development of task objectives, and project objectives.
• Supervise field activities and ensure compliance with project standards.
• Manage subcontractors and other project resources.
• Ensure sample and data collection, analyses, evaluation, and interpretation are completed accurately and in accordance with project objectives.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously within established budgets, schedules, and deadlines.
• Prepare project progress reports and status presentations.
• Lead meetings with clients, regulators, stakeholders, and project teams.
• Prepare and manage change orders.
• Track project budgets and schedules.
• Ensure projects are completed and closed out according to requirements.
• Coordinate with financial team members to ensure project invoicing, billing, and payment collection are properly completed.
• Lead the preparation, organization, writing, and editing of technical reports, proposals, and other documents.
• Coordinate with other offices and disciplines as needed.
• Interface professionally with clients, regulators, contractors, subcontractors, project stakeholders, staff, supervisors, and other personnel.
• Travel to Ohio client and project sites as required.
• Support regional and local business development activities.
• Report through the Marietta, OH office.
• Perform other duties as requested.

Office & Location Expectations

The position is based through the Marietta, OH office , but there is flexibility regarding the candidate's home location.

For an Ohio-based candidate, the anticipated office presence would be approximately a portion of one week per month during the initial year , with additional flexibility based on coordination needs with team members and clients.

Candidates outside Ohio may be considered from nearby markets where regular travel to Ohio is practical.

Travel
