The Opportunity

• The preparation of environmental documents needed to obtain the environmental authorization of projects, both directly and/or by external services, required for the assessment of the impacts on the environmental and social matrices.
• To identify the environmental constraints of the site and contribute to the preparation of Feasibility Studies and Due Diligence Analysis.
• The environmental constraints check, in relation to new power plants, to comply with the environmental authorizations obtained and to define the related Capex or Opex.
• To design and perform environmental monitoring on site.

The Lead Environmental Engineer will address and solve technical issues related to own field of expertise and use own knowledge to meet project/authorization requirements. Activities may also include managing external resources.

What You'll Do at Enel North America

• Address the relevant environmental specialized topics for all project development stages (development, permitting and construction) to ensure compliance with company environmental best practices and technical specifications.
• Ensure high level competence on authorization issues of renewable power plants, defining and updating the technical specifications needed for environmental authorization documents, and supporting other units within the Organization.
• Provide technical support to E&C colleagues in relation to compliance of the project/power plant with environmental constraints and requirements, to BD colleagues for the "authorization path" definition, and to HSEQ colleagues for on‑site surveillance and environmental reporting.
• Manage/control external contractors for environmental assessment (and integrative documents) and environmental monitoring on site (permitting/construction/operation phases).
• Execute and/or validate Environmental Due Diligences, Feasibility Studies, Documents and Studies required for Permitting and Monitoring Plans for renewable power plants (wind, solar, geo, Hydro and storage).
• Support the organization in assuring authorization compliance of construction supplies and works, and in overall project activity planning, within own field of expertise.
• Work and cooperate with the Business Development Unit (BD), Project Engineers, Project Managers and other specialists from the Engineering Unit for all environmental aspects of the projects.
• Attend meetings with Authorities and stakeholders on technical topics in support of BD colleagues.
• Lead, perform and support the estimation of costs for the environmental activities during construction of renewable power plants, and the risk assessment for construction of renewable power plants.
• Develop, create and update technical specifications for any RFPs issued by the Organization.
• Lead, perform and support the technical evaluation of vendor offers for any RFPs sent out by the Organization.
• Manage, with other units, environmental engineering service contracts and supply contracts with external service providers.
• Support the younger members of the organization.

Who You Are

• Experience preparing Technical Specifications for negotiation of external services.
• Management and supervision of external contractors for environmental activities and verification of their compliance with Technical Specifications and Best Practices.
• Development (directly and through third parties) of all documents needed for Environmental authorization of power plants.
• Planning and management of environmental authorization activities.
• Proactive and flexible in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent teamwork, coordination, detail orientation and communication skills (written & oral).

What You've Accomplished

• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering or related scientific field; Master’s degree preferred.
• 4+ years of experience in the role.
• General knowledge of renewable power plant processes.
• Knowledge of the norms/laws for Environmental Permitting of renewable power plants, both nationally and in agreement with IFC Standards.
• Techniques for developing Environmental and Social Impact Assessments, Environmental Assessments of special protected areas, monitoring plans (noise, biological, birds & bats, etc.) during construction and operation.
• Fluent English required; Italian or Spanish preferred.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Computer skills: Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, GIS Software.
