Join us and help shape the future of aerospace and defense.Civil Space in Collins Aerospace Mission Systems is seeking a senior engineering manager to lead a multidisciplinary team of structural analysts and aero-thermal fluids engineers supporting multiple programs, product development, and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in matrix organization leadership and technical capability in static, dynamic, and fracture analysis of complex mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. The candidate will be a highly engaged, hands-on engineering leader who has a passion for developing talent and solving challenging problems to help create and support design solutions for mission critical spaceflight applications in accordance with stakeholder requirements within an allocated budget and schedule.What You Will Do:Lead an experienced, empowered team comprised of structural analysts and aero-thermal fluids engineers with various skillsets, supporting multiple programs in different stages of design, development, build, test, and verificationResponsible for the leadership, training, coaching, and technical oversight of the detailed stress and aero-thermal analysis of complex structures utilized in human spaceflight mechanical and electromechanical applicationsLead team in all aspects of structural and aero-thermal analysis including static and dynamic stress analysis using Ansys, Patran/Nastran and closed form solutions, fracture analysis (NASGRO), margin of safety and fatigue calculations, occasional nonlinear analysis, support of vibration and shock testing, CFD, thermal and performance analysisProvide occasional expert technical guidance and support to development and production programsDevelop and enact professional and technical development plans, and succession plansPerform staffing coordination and employee skill development to ensure suitable skill mix among the team, including hiring and performance developmentCollaborate with relevant stakeholders (Chief Engineers, Program Managers, Senior Engineering Leadership, etc.) to ensure that program goals are metEnsure adherence to department and company policies and standards, ethics and regulatory compliance, and contractual specificationsProvide recommendations and implement continuous improvementsQualifications You Must Have:Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experienceThis position is considered safety sensitive in accordance with NASA Guidelines. Candidate will be subject to drug and alcohol testing per NASA's regulation SUBPART 1835.5 Drug- Free WorkforceQualifications We Prefer:Leader with a demonstrated record of success leading engineering teams, managing and/or performing on a multidisciplinary team of 10+Experience in structural analysis, random vibration and shock testing of space-qualified ECLSS, thermal management, or similar complex electro-mechanical systems and componentsExperience in CFD, thermal, and performance analysis of space-qualified ECLSS and thermal management systems and componentsSolid understanding of material behaviors in the linear and non-linear rangeExperience with project, program, and/or task planning and coordinationStrong knowledge of and experience with spaceflight hardware design process.
Particularly, the analysis & support information for mechanical and electro-mechanical component and assembly design processes, metal and composite structures, mechanical materials, and physical testing of mechanical parts and assemblies, such as performance, random vibration and shockExperience in interpreting and comparing test results to analytical models (test vs FEM)Exceptional organizational, analytical, written, and verbal communication skillsAbility to multi-task with a focus on daily issues and longer-term strategiesSolid interpersonal skills with experience in employee management, coaching, and mentoringDemonstrated experience in problem solving.
