San Juan Water District, located in Granite Bay, California, is a community services district created by a vote of the citizens in 1954. The District provides wholesale water to more than 160,000 people and retail to 30,000 people living in eastern Sacramento and southern Placer Counties. The District wholesales water to Citrus Heights, Fair Oaks and San Juan (retail) Water Districts, Orange Vale Water Company and the City of Folsom with surplus treatment capacity available to Sacramento Suburban Water District. The District provides treatment and delivery of more than 50,000 acre-feet of water per year to wholesale and retail customers.
With rich history dating back to the Gold Rush era, the District has served the community for more than 150 years. The District's highest priority is to provide reliable, high-quality water to its customers - every day, year in and year out. The District is significantly involved in reshaping California's water dialogue.
San Juan Water District is led by a five-member board of directors who are elected by the community to provide guidance, strategy, and policy for district programs and policies.
THE POSITION
The Senior Engineer is responsible to perform professional engineering duties related to the design, construction and project management of District capital improvement projects and to coordinate and oversee the work of consultants and contractors.
Examples of Duties Include
- Manage, direct, review and participate in planning studies, preliminary engineering, design and construction of the District's wholesale and retail capital improvement projects.
- Oversee and administer construction contracts; oversee construction management of wholesale and retail projects.
- Develop requests for proposals; review proposals and oversee the selection process; negotiate contracts; direct and oversee the work of consultants and contractors.
- Maintain good working relationships with local, regional and State agencies to coordinate project implementation, permitting and regulatory review.
- Assist water treatment and field services staff on technical issues as requested.
- Participate in the development and administration of the budget; prepare cost estimates including, but not limited to construction, consultants, and other associated project costs.
- Oversee the bid process including pre-bid conference and contract awards for District construction projects.
- Provide technical staff assistance to District management; prepare and present staff reports and technical reports and correspondence.
- Prepare and make presentations to the Engineering Committee and/or Board of Directors regarding project recommendation, award and progress updates.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
To be considered, candidates should be knowledgeable of advanced principles and practices of civil engineering, design, construction, and maintenance requirements of water system facilities including the strength, properties and use of engineering construction materials, principles of construction management and be able to independently perform the more complex engineering duties including design, construction and project management.
The qualifications include:
- 8 years of increasingly responsible professional engineering experience including project management AND
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California with good standing.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The salary range is $154,918-$185,910, depending on qualifications.
