Requirements
Must have:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a state-issued Professional Engineer license
- Strong understanding of engineering design principles, methods, and practices
- Ability to analyze complex electrical and mechanical systems
- Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to apply engineering theory effectively
- Thorough knowledge of the standards, codes, and procedures relevant to the area of expertise
- At least 7 years of professional engineering experience
- Deep expertise in a specialized engineering discipline
- Ability to apply advanced engineering concepts to identify and resolve intricate issues
- Minimum of three related career progressions, or recognized leadership in an industry committee, or one of the following: PE license, advanced technical degree, MBA, or Project Management Certification
- If applicable, a masters degree in engineering may reduce the on-the-job experience requirement by one year
- The Professional Engineer license must be issued by the state where we are practicing
- A PE license may reduce the on-the-job experience requirement by one year
- Preferred: graduate degree or graduate-level coursework in engineering, business administration, or project management certification
- Preferred: Engineer-in-Training certification and/or Professional Engineer license
- Preferred: strong teamwork, interpersonal, written, oral, presentation, reporting, and technical writing skills
- Preferred: participation in industry committees or working groups, or publication of technical documents
- Preferred: advanced experience in utility infrastructure, including system analysis, planning, design coordination, standards development, or project execution
- Preferred: familiarity with analysis software such as CYMDIST, PSS/E, Python, PLS-CAD, Pole Foreman, Power BI, or similar tools
Responsibilities
- We lead technical work in the planning, design, and execution of utility infrastructure projects across electric or gas distribution, transmission, substations, and related systems
- We mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance, peer review, and training
- We lead advanced system performance analysis and outage investigations across electric, gas, and communications networks
- We develop and implement engineering strategies that support grid modernization
- We manage budgets, schedules, and resources for major initiatives
- We coordinate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to move projects forward
- We conduct field inspections, troubleshooting, and site walkdowns to address technical issues
- We evaluate complex engineering problems and recommend practical solutions or programs
- We prepare, review, and maintain technical documentation, deliverables, and commissioning plans
- We participate in department planning, meetings, budget recommendations, and performance tracking
- We may engage with technical and industry societies to stay current on emerging technologies and issues
- We may work extended hours during storms or other energy delivery emergencies
