Senior Engineer II-Applications (Software/Firmware)Microchip Technology Inc. has a Senior Engineer II-Applications (Software/Firmware) opening based in Houston, TX. The successful candidate will be working closely with the product development, validation, marketing, and sales teams to provide world-class technical customer support for the Datacenter and Server channel products.
This will include assisting in design wins, supporting customer product ramp & production, documenting complex systems issues, and working with development teams to resolve issues in a timely manner. These activities require the ability to work and gather information across functional groups, external customers, and product programs to determine the optimal solutions for our North American and International customers.Responsibilities:Support SAS/SATA/NVMe Protocol, RAID controller embedded firmware, OS drivers, and management softwareSupport PCIe, security, and encryption technologiesWork closely with Tier 1 OEMs and their ODMs to define requirements, assisting in design wins, manage deliverables and support initial system bring-up to full productionWork closely with channel customers, ECO System partners, and distributionPublishing & maintaining system compatibility lists, SW releases, release notes, and web postingsMaintain knowledge base & issue tracking databaseWork independently, and in a team environmentRoot cause & document customer issues in a timely manner independently or by leading a cross-functional teamDevelop and review customer level documentation including user guides, release notes, technical product training, and application notesUnderstand customer requirements and drive them through the project management processProvide training as needed to end customers, MCHP FAEs, and MCHP salesTravel within North America and internationally, as needed, to work at customer sites to debug firmware and softwareRequirements/Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with 7.5+ years of directly related experienceStrong understanding of PCIe/CXL, NVMe, SAS/SATA, SCSI, and other storage related technologiesStrong technical leadership and teamworkStrong understanding of Web applications & customer service softwareStrong verbal and written communication skills with customer facing experience and presentation skillsExperience with board-level debugExperience with bench top equipment such as protocol analyzers/exercisers, logic analyzers, and other storage or networking related test equipmentAbility to effectively work with cross-functional teams and across multiple geographical locationsTier 1 customer facing experience and ability to understand requirements and drive them through the project management processProvide training as needed to end customers, Microchip Applications and FAEsProvide customer and field engineer support as neededMust demonstrate initiative and be self-motivatedIndependent but also works well within the cross functional teams across multiple geographical locationsCreative with attention to detailAbility to multi-task and meet deadlinesPreferred Qualifications:Experience with RISC, MIPS, ARM based embedded processorsExperience with storage acceleratorsExperience with AI/ML, deep learning, and natural language processingExperience working with Marketing and Sales teamsUnderstanding of server BIOS functionality and device driversExperience with server/storage firmware and softwareHardware and chip development/debug skillsExperience with high-speed debug equipment like oscilloscopes, DCAJ and BERTDebugging skills and experience with kernel (Windbg), JTAG, serial port, Greenhills DebuggerExperience in the Storage IndustryTCP/IP knowledge/experienceLocal Area Networking experienceExperienced with Storage management (MCTP, BMC, etc.)Highly structured programming in C, C++, and TCL/TK or other scripting languageTravel Time:0% - 25%Physical Attributes:Carrying, Feeling, Hearing, Lifting, Pulling, Pushing, Reaching, Seeing, Talking, Works Around OthersPhysical Requirements:10% Standing, 10% Walking, 80% Sitting, 100% Inside-MF 8-5PMMicrochip Technology Inc is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
