Eversource supports work‑life balance by offering hybrid schedules for certain roles. Eligibility is based on job responsibilities, operational needs, nature of work and team dynamics. Current guidelines require employees to work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with the third day set by the employee and supervisor based on department needs. These guidelines apply to roles approved for remote work and are subject to change, based on managerial discretion and work performance. All applicants must be able to work up to five days in the office if needed (for example: emergencies, training, or other business needs) or should the policy change.

Role and Scope of Position

Individual will plan, coordinate, and perform engineering assignments (design and implementation) in support of distribution automation telecommunication systems for Eversource. The role involves ensuring the company’s wireless data communications networks are optimally configured to support SCADA data applications within the operating areas, selecting appropriate data communications protocols, technologies, products and services, and collaborating with senior staff and Field Communications to troubleshoot and build the distribution automation communications network.

Essential Functions

  • Plan, coordinate, and perform engineering assignments in support of wireless data telecommunication systems for Eversource.
  • Design, implement, and operate wireless SCADA data telecommunication systems to support Eversource's Electric operations.
  • Support field construction and maintenance of wireless SCADA data telecommunication assets/infrastructure including digital microwave, mobile and fixed wireless networks, paging systems and subsystems.
  • Perform data analysis of wireless SCADA data communication systems to aid continued enhancement and troubleshooting of SCADA data applications.
  • Contribute to the configuration and specification of SCADA data wireless telecom equipment/hardware and its interface to field RTU devices.
  • Troubleshoot events on the distribution system where a field device communication is identified to have mis‑operated or impacted remote operations.
  • Apply industry requirements and standards set forth by organizations such as IEEE, IEC, NERC, etc.
  • Exhibit a “can‑do” attitude, working through issues, changes in priorities, and new demands or circumstances positively.

Technical Knowledge / Skill / Education / Licenses / Certifications

Technical Knowledge / Skill

  • General understanding of the design, specification, and installation of wireless SCADA data telecommunications systems over various media (radio, cellular, fiber).
  • Basic understanding of SCADA engineering concepts, especially DNP 3.0 protocol.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong ability to coordinate with a team to design and build out a project.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or related discipline.

Experience

  • At least five (5) years of experience in the design, implementation, and support of wireless SCADA data telecommunications systems.
  • Experience with the application of wireless SCADA data telecommunications infrastructure within a utility application using DNP 3.0 protocol is preferred.
  • Understanding of electric utility systems is strongly preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Must be available to work emergency storm assignments as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
  • Travel throughout the service territory is required 20% of the time, involving industrial environments, climbing ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, and outdoor exposure.
  • The remaining 80% of work is performed in an office environment requiring standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, writing, and typing.
  • Selected candidate will have a storm‑response role defined and will be expected to support restoration activity.

Compensation and Benefits

Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. Salary is commensurate with your experience and is eligible for a potential incentive. The annual salary range for this position is: $129,450.00 – $143,830.00.

Responding to emergency situations to meet customers’ needs is part of every employee’s role. If employed, you will be given an Emergency Restoration assignment and may be called to assist during an emergency outside of your normal responsibilities, work hours and location.
