Remote Full Time Engineering

We are hiring a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer. You will develop firmware for our family of baby and adult sleep devices, creating new features and fixing issues in microcontroller code written with the ESP-IDF and running FreeRTOS.

What You’ll Do

  • Dig into our embedded architecture and tools through team walkthroughs and independent exploration, providing clear observations.
  • Own and ship fixes and features, using AI to accelerate delivery.
  • Use and understand tools for observability.
  • Build strong working relationships with peers across mobile, backend, product, QA, and other teams.
  • Thoroughly understand the system architecture, including interactions with the mobile app and cloud backend.
  • Learn the business drivers and apply sharp judgment to prioritize work.
  • Own and ship complex fixes and features, refactors, and process improvements.
  • Improve observability by developing dashboards and tools, enhancing firmware as needed.
  • Lead the design and rollout of new product firmware or large‑scale refactors.
  • Mentor teammates and model pragmatic, high‑quality engineering decisions.
  • Drive embedded improvements that elevate reliability, stability, and developer experience.
  • Build reusable modules, scripts, and patterns that increase engineering consistency.
  • Maintain a customer‑centric focus throughout all work.

What You’ll Bring

  • 7+ years of embedded engineering experience, with deep expertise in C development on resource‑constrained MCUs running an RTOS, BLE/Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi, SPI, I2C, I2S, LEDs, and familiarity with Jira, Git/Github, GDB, Make/CMake, Python, schematics, part selection, and datasheet interpretation.
  • Track record of working at the border between hardware and software, delivering high‑quality consumer products in cost, schedule, and MCU‑resource‑constrained environments.
  • A passion for evolving production firmware by improving structure, testability, and maintainability without introducing regressions.
  • Experience writing automated tests and processes, and an understanding of when they should be applied.
  • A desire for elegance and simplicity, following the principle of “do the simplest thing that can possibly work.”
  • Judgment and humility, self‑awareness, and the ability to raise concerns when necessary.
  • A pragmatic approach, recognizing that new technologies are not always the best solution.
  • A collaborative spirit that elevates those around you.
  • Clear communication skills, able to explain complex concepts simply.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with Claude code, audio‑specific development, PCB design tools (Altium), ESP32, FreeRTOS, integration with AWS, and large‑scale deployment.

Benefits

  • 100% paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees (80% for dependents, including domestic partners).
  • 16 weeks of fully paid parental leave.
  • 16 free therapy sessions for you and one other adult in your life.
  • Financial support for family planning.
  • Remote office with monthly internet reimbursement.
  • Friends & family discounts on Hatch products.
  • Exclusive discounts on travel, entertainment, and top retail brands.
