Senior Embedded Software Engineer – Edge AI / Audio Signal Processing

A well-established technology company builds mission-critical edge AI hardware products deployed in the field at scale. Their systems combine acoustic sensing with embedded Linux single-board computers, performing on-device inference and feeding real-time data to cloud backends for enterprise customers.
The edge engineering team is currently small, with deep technical knowledge concentrated in very few individuals. This hire will work directly alongside the team's senior embedded engineer to build redundancy and expand in-house capability, with potential for a second hire later this year.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support and grow a lean edge engineering function, reducing key-person dependency on the existing team
- Design, integrate, and qualify hardware components on embedded Linux SBC platforms, with a focus on acoustic/audio sensing systems
- Develop and maintain C/C++ software for real-time, on-device inference, including audio signal processing pipelines, with some assembly work
- Own CI/CD pipelines and build/release processes for embedded deployments
- Apply networking and security best practices across edge-to-cloud data pipelines
- Work directly with hardware designers to prototype and qualify new sensor components
Ideal Profile:
- Background in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field strongly preferred
- Meaningful experience in audio engineering or acoustic/DSP signal processing is a core requirement, not a nice-to-have
- Broad systems thinker, comfortable working across hardware and software
- Strong Linux and C/C++ skills; assembly language experience a plus
- Solid grounding in CI/CD, networking, and security fundamentals
- Able to communicate effectively with hardware design teams
- Based in the San Francisco Bay Area; no visa sponsorship available
