Senior Embedded Firmware EngineerIrvine, CaliforniaOnsiteDirect Hire$130k - $150kOur client in the EV/AV space is urgently looking for a Sr. embedded firmware engineer with strong experience with C, RTOS and communication protocols like CAN, USB or UART, SPI, I2C to add to their growing team here in Irvine. The Firmware Designer is responsible for designing, implementing, testing, and maintaining firmware for embedded systems.

This role requires a deep understanding of both hardware and software to ensure that the firmware effectively controls hardware components and performs as required. The Firmware Designer will work closely with hardware engineers, software developers, and other team members to create reliable and efficient firmware solutions.Responsibilities:Design and develop firmware for embedded systems based on system requirements and specificationsWrite and optimize code in low-level programming languages such as CImplement and test firmware features to ensure they meet design specifications and performance criteriaDevelop test suites for verificationAutomate test casesHardware Integration:Collaborate with hardware engineers to understand hardware architecture and ensure firmware effectively interfaces with hardware componentsDebug and troubleshoot issues related to hardware and firmware interactionTesting and Validation:Develop and execute test plans to validate firmware functionality and performancePerform unit testing, integration testing, and system-level testing to identify and resolve issuesAnalyze and address bugs and performance issues and make necessary adjustments to improve firmware qualityDocumentation and Reporting:Create and maintain detailed documentation for firmware design, development processes, and testing proceduresProvide regular updates and reports on project status, including any issues, risks, and resolutionsContinuous Improvement:Stay current with advancements in firmware development technologies and best practicesIdentify areas for improvement in existing firmware and propose solutions to enhance functionality and efficiencyCollaboration and Communication:Work closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, software developers, and product managers, to ensure successful integration of firmware with other system componentsParticipate in design reviews, code reviews, and team meetings to contribute to project planning and executionQualifications:Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related fieldExperience: Proven experience in firmware development for embedded systems, including hands-on experience with microcontrollers, processors, and peripheral interfacesSkills:Proficiency in low-level programming languages such as C, C++, and assemblyStrong understanding of embedded systems architecture, hardware-software interaction, and real-time operating systems (RTOS)Experience with debugging tools and techniques for embedded systems.Familiarity with version control systems such as Git, Jira and DockerFamiliarity with scriptingFamiliarity with building toolsPreferred Qualifications:Experience with additional programming languages and tools relevant to firmware developmentExperience with scripting and test case developmentKnowledge of communication protocols (e.g., SPI, I2C, UART) and hardware debugging tools (e.g., oscilloscopes, logic analyzers)Experience with Agile development methodologiesOffer:135-150K BaseMedical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short / Long term Disability100 % match, 401K Retirement PlanVacation and Sick Time11 Holiday Pay
