Senior Embedded Controls Software EngineerVMEC Chassis Controls is building next-generation suspension control systems from the ground up, bringing key capabilities in-house for the first time. We're looking for Senior Embedded Controls Software Engineers who want to be part of that from day one: writing hand-coded C, owning software end to end, and directly shaping how these systems perform across GM's vehicle portfolio.This team operates with a startup mindset inside GM: fast-moving, highly collaborative, and comfortable working through ambiguity. The ideal candidate writes high-quality production embedded software, thrives in that environment, and is motivated by building something new.

This role offers strong growth opportunities and long-term impact as the team matures and scales.What You'll Do:Design, implement, and test embedded control software using hand-coded C (non-model-based, non-scripted)Own software from architecture through implementation, testing, and releaseBuild and maintain robust unit and integration tests with strong traceabilityDrive software quality, including maintainability, robustness, and MISRA complianceContribute to Agile development (story breakdown, reviews, demos, retrospectives)Troubleshoot and resolve complex system-level issuesInfluence technical decisions and drive continuous improvementMentor team members and promote best practicesYour Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):Strong, current hands-on experience writing production code in C (non-scripting, non-model-based)Ability to design, implement, and debug embedded software directly in C is requiredExperience only interpreting auto-generated code (e.g., from MATLAB/Simulink) is not sufficient5+ years of embedded software development experienceExperience with embedded systems testing (unit and integration)Working knowledge of C++ and/or PythonExperience with version control (Git) and issue tracking tools (e.g., Jira)Strong problem-solving and debugging skillsAbility to work effectively in environments with evolving requirementsBachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fieldWhat Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):Experience in Chassis Controls, Vehicle Dynamics, Steering, Suspension, Brakes, or related mechatronic domainsFamiliarity with MATLAB/Simulink (in addition to—not instead of—hand coding)Experience with automotive standards, diagnostics, or calibration toolsExperience in agile software developmentAdvanced degree in a related fieldFamiliarity with Jira, Git / GithubKnowledge of BDD, TDD, diagnostics, calibration tools, and automotive development processesExperience mentoring engineers and leading technical workGM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
