The Senior Electrical Test Engineer serves as the organization’s subject matter expert in electronic testing, measurement systems, laboratory instrumentation, and test automation. This role is responsible for designing and implementing advanced test solutions, developing reliable measurement methodologies, solving complex technical challenges, and providing technical leadership and mentorship across engineering teams.
Position Overview
The Senior Electrical Test Engineer will lead the development of custom test systems, automated data acquisition platforms, and measurement processes for complex electrical and electronic systems. Working across analog, digital, mixed-signal, and power electronics domains, this individual ensures test accuracy, repeatability, and compliance while driving continuous improvement in laboratory operations, troubleshooting practices, and engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical authority for electronic test equipment and measurement methods.
- Select and configure instrumentation based on signal, accuracy, bandwidth, timing, and environmental requirements.
- Design custom data acquisition systems, test fixtures, signal-conditioning circuits, switching systems, and automated test equipment.
- Develop test plans, procedures, work instructions, work orders, and acceptance criteria.
- Automate equipment control, test sequences, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems, embedded hardware, interfaces, test setups, and intermittent failures.
- Establish best practices for grounding, shielding, noise reduction, signal integrity, probing, impedance control, ESD protection, electrical safety, and measurement uncertainty.
- Review test setups and procedures for technical rigor, repeatability, traceability, and safety.
- Mentor engineers and technicians in instrumentation, troubleshooting, test design, and laboratory practices.
- Support equipment selection, laboratory standardization, calibration, and maintenance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in electrical engineering or a related technical field.
- Extensive hands‑on experience with electrical testing and laboratory instrumentation.
- Strong understanding of analog, digital, mixed‑signal, and power electronics.
- Experience designing custom DAQs, automated test systems, fixtures, and signal‑conditioning circuits.
- Experience controlling instruments through Ethernet, USB, GPIB, serial, or similar interfaces.
- Proficiency with Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, C/C++, or similar test automation tools.
- Strong troubleshooting, technical writing, and mentoring skills.
- Ability to independently solve complex and ambiguous technical problems.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with embedded software or firmware development.
- Experience testing high‑speed digital, RF, mixed‑signal, power, or high‑reliability systems.
- Experience supporting radiation‑effects testing, including proton, heavy‑ion, total ionizing dose, displacement damage, or related test environments.
- Experience developing test systems for aerospace, defense, qualification, production, or other high‑consequence applications.
Additional Requirements
- This is a full‑time, on‑site role based in our Los Angeles office.
- May be required to travel occasionally to support test activities.
Compensation
The expected salary range for this position is $120,000-$170,000. Final compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications.
