Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Test & Compliance Engineer to support the development, testing, and sustaining of medical device products. In this role, you'll lead electrical safety and EMC testing efforts, manage regulatory compliance activities, and serve as the technical lead for IEC 60601 testing projects. You'll collaborate closely with engineering, quality, manufacturing, sourcing, and regulatory teams to ensure products meet safety, performance, and quality requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Lead IEC 60601-1 and IEC 60601-1-2 compliance testing projects, serving as the primary technical contact with external test laboratories.
- Develop and execute electrical safety, EMC, and standards-based test plans and document comprehensive test reports.
- Troubleshoot compliance and test failures, triage issues to cross-functional engineering teams, and drive resolution.
- Support sustaining engineering activities for released medical device products across multiple business units.
- Evaluate engineering design changes ranging from individual circuits to complete system-level product configurations.
- Perform component analysis for BOM replacements and determine required validation testing.
- Test new and replacement PCB-level components and evaluate results against established acceptance criteria.
- Assess electrical and system compatibility between interconnected medical devices.
- Analyze failures involving circuit boards, power supplies, displays, cables, and other electrical assemblies.
- Perform electrical testing of PCBAs and finished products while documenting design improvements and engineering updates.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and contract manufacturing partners to resolve production-related electrical issues.
- Work closely with Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Manufacturing, and Sourcing teams to ensure product compliance.
- Support regulatory submissions by providing technical justification, test data, and standards compliance documentation.
- Ensure all engineering documentation complies with internal Quality System requirements.
- Build quality into all aspects of engineering work by following applicable quality processes and procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 7+ years of experience in electrical engineering with a strong focus on electrical hardware design, validation, and testing.
- Hands-on experience performing electrical safety and EMC testing.
- Strong experience managing or supporting IEC 60601 compliance testing projects.
- Experience using laboratory equipment including:
- Digital multimeters
- Signal generators
- Spectrum analyzers
- Network analyzers
- Experience using hand tools such as soldering irons, crimpers, and other electronic assembly tools.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for PCBAs, power supplies, displays, cables, and complex electrical systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to independently manage projects while collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
