As a key member of MicroVision's Hardware Design Engineering team, you will provide critical hands-on technical support across hardware development, laboratory operations, and product build activities for automotive LiDAR products.The Senior Engineering Electrical Technician is a highly skilled, hands-on technical resource responsible for supporting hardware development and validation activities across MicroVision's engineering teams.

This role demands expert-level bench skills including BGA rework, complex hand wiring modifications, and precision small electronics assembly. In addition to direct hardware support, this individual serves as the Engineering Lab Manager for the Orlando facility, owning laboratory compliance. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable executing intricate rework on cutting-edge hardware and ensuring the lab operates as a safe, organized, and compliant environment.Hardware Rework and AssemblyPerform expert-level BGA rework including reflow, reballing, and site preparation on densely populated, fine-pitch PCBAs using hot air, IR, and BGA rework station equipmentExecute complex white wire modifications and point-to-point hand wiring on prototype and engineering builds, including routing under components and through constrained board areasPerform precision soldering and rework on fine-pitch SMD components, through-hole assemblies, RF connectors, flex cables, and other small or delicate electronic assembliesAssess rework feasibility and risk on new designs, providing feedback to engineers on pad geometry, component accessibility, and recommended rework approachesDocument all rework activities with photographic records, rework logs, and updated assembly notes to support traceability and design learningHardware TestingExecute electrical test procedures on prototype and production PCBAs, including power sequencing verification, functional checkout, parametric measurements, and boundary scan or ICT supportOperate standard laboratory test equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, power supplies, DMMs, logic analyzers, and signal generators; support automated test script execution for board-level functional verificationPerform small mechanical assembly and disassembly including torque-sensitive fastening, optical component handling, and connector/cable management; operate optical measurement equipment such as beam profilers and power meters as directedSupport mechanical and optical test setups for LiDAR subsystems, including beam alignment, optical path verification, and sensor positioning using precision fixturing and alignment toolsDocument and communicate test results clearly, flagging anomalies and supporting root cause investigation with engineering staff; observe proper ESD and contamination control protocols when handling sensitive componentsEngineering Lab ManagementServe as the primary lab manager for MicroVision's Orlando engineering labs, maintaining a safe, organized, and audit-ready environment that keeps the hardware development team fully operationalOwn consumables and equipment inventory, including purchase requests as well as calibration and maintenance scheduling for lab instrumentsMaintain lab compliance with Environmental Health and Safety (ESH) requirements, including chemical storage, soldering fume extraction, fire safety, and hazardous material handling & disposalDevelop and maintain lab procedures, safety protocols, and work instructions, and coordinate with engineers, facilities and IT to ensure labs remain properly equipped and resourcedOur Required Skills and Qualifications:Associate's degree or technical certification in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field; equivalent hands-on experience considered7+ years of experience as an electronics technician in a hardware development or R&D setting. Including experience in an ISO 9001 quality management environment.Expert hand soldering and rework skills across a wide range of component types including fine-pitch SMD, QFN, BGA, RF connectors, 0402/0201 components and flex interconnects; IPC-A-610 and/or IPC-7711/7721 certification or equivalent strongly preferredAbility to read and interpret schematics, assembly drawings, and test procedures with a high degree of accuracy. Altium experience is strongly preferred.Experience executing electrical functional and parametric testing on PCBAs using standard bench equipmentStrong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and lab responsibilities simultaneouslyClear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document work thoroughly and collaborate effectively with engineering staffPreferred QualificationsExperience with X-ray inspection of BGA and other area-array components to assess solder joint qualityProficiency with automated test scripting or test software environments (e.g., Python, LabVIEW, or similar)Experience with PCB rapid prototyping equipment including milling/routing machines and laser cutters, as well as 3D printers for test fixtures and enclosuresExperience managing a laboratory environment including inventory, equipment calibration tracking, and ESH compliance responsibilitiesFamiliarity with optical component handling and bench-level optical alignment proceduresExperience supporting mechanical assembly and integration in a precision hardware development environmentFamiliarity with audit processes such as ISO, AS9100, or internal quality management system auditsA genuine curiosity for learning new tools and equipment — someone who dives into datasheets and thrives in hands-on experimentation to get up to speed independently and bring new capabilities to the teamMicroVision offers a flexible work schedule that could include a hybrid schedule of onsite and remote work, subject to team and business needs.
