Onsite Contract General

Senior Electrical EngineerThe Senior Electrical Engineer will lead the design and implementation of electrical systems for mission-critical facilities, including data centers, advanced manufacturing plants, and other high-reliability environments. This role requires deep technical expertise in medium- and low-voltage power distribution, utility interfaces, standby generation, UPS systems, grounding, and redundancy strategies essential for 24/7 operations. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing electrical infrastructure that meets stringent uptime and efficiency requirements while coordinating with cross-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced, design-build environment. The Specifics of the RoleLead design of medium-voltage (up to 35 kV) and low-voltage distribution, including MV systems from the point of interconnection or on-site substation through switchgear, transformers, standby generator plants, UPS systems, grounding, and redundancy topologies (e.g., N+1, 2N, distributed-redundant, block-redundant) for data centers and other high-availability environments.Perform short-circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies to optimize electrical system reliability and safety.Perform cable ampacity calculations, including Neher-McGrath analysis for underground duct bank thermal modeling, to size feeders and validate MV/LV distribution under data center loading conditions.Collaborate closely with architectural, mechanical, and structural teams to integrate electrical systems into overall project design.Manage client relationships and support construction execution, presenting technical solutions, providing field support, and resolving technical challenges to ensure alignment with operational goals.Mentor junior engineers, contribute to the continuous improvement of design standards and best practices, and stay current with emerging technologies and trends in the mission-critical industry.RequirementsBS degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET institution required.8+ years of experience in Electrical Engineering, with at least 3 years focused on mission-critical or data center projects.Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred, with the ability to attain licenses in multiple states; highly experienced unlicensed candidates with strong mission-critical design backgrounds are welcome to apply.Demonstrated experience designing medium-voltage (up to 35 kV) and low-voltage distribution systems, including utility coordination, generator plants, switchgear, protective device coordination, and cable ampacity analysis (Neher-McGrath / IEEE 399 / IEEE 835) for high-reliability facilities.Expertise in software tools such as SKM Power*Tools, ETAP, or EasyPower for power system analysis, and AmpCalc or CYMCAP for cable ampacity and duct bank thermal modeling.Strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE, NFPA 70E, and other relevant codes and standards.Experience working in a design-build or integrated project delivery (IPD) environment is a plus.Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Some Things You Should KnowNo other builder can offer the collaborative design-build approach that Clayco does.We work on creative, complex, award-winning, high-profile jobs. The pace is fast! Why Clayco and LJC?2025 Best Places to Work – St. Louis Business Journal, Los Angeles Business Journal, and Phoenix Business Journal.2025 ENR Top 400 – Top Data Center Contractor (Top 3).2025 ENR Top 100 Design-Build Firms – Design-Build Contractor (Top 5).2025 ENR Top 100 Green Contractors – Green Contractor (Top 3).BenefitsDiscretionary Annual Bonus: Subject to company and individual performance.Comprehensive Benefits Package Including: Medical, dental and vision plans, 401k, generous PTO and paid company holidays, employee assistance program, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, disability coverage, learning & development programs and more!CompensationThe salary range for this position considers a wide range of factors in making compensation decisions including but not limited to: Education, qualifications, skills, training, experience, certifications, internal equity, and location.
