Job TitleThis position provides support to the Grid Operations and Planning Research area within Research & Development.The engineer will support projects and in time lead efforts to deploy and evaluate the performance of emerging technologies in this arena.The position is primarily focused on tools to support grid operations with an emphasis on power system analysis, "big data" analytics, and visualization. However, the work will involve projects in other areas of the power system.Knowledge of databases, data structures, computer networking is desirable as well as an aptitude to apply engineering analysis to solve problems.Education Requirements:Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (EE) requiredSpecialization in Power Systems desiredExperience with computer programming (Python, C#, SQL) desiredAdvanced degree in EE, computer science or other related fields strongly preferredJob Responsibilities:Develop research plan to evaluate new technologyManage multiple tasks at one timeProvide documentation of study assumptions and methods used to arrive at resultsProvide informative reports and presentations on projectsSome overnight travel may be required but this is not extensive.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Must demonstrate good communication skills, both internal and external to the companyMust have excellent organizational skillsMust possess analytical skills as well as the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneouslyMust work well in a team environmentMust have the ability to manage your own work schedule and work with limited directionMust have strong initiative – a self-starterMust be great at problem solvingCandidate will work in a hybrid work arrangement reporting in-person/in-office at least 3 days per week (12 days a month) in Birmingham, AL.
