Senior Electrical DesignerLocation: Waterloo, ONJob Summary: Responsible for leading the electrical design of automation machinery based on customer information, company and departmental standards, external (CSA, ESA, OSHA, etc.), requirements and supervisor and peer input. Responsible for ensuring that the design meets the customer’s expectations, is completed within the scheduled timeframe, and can be manufactured within the budgeted time and costs.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Works in a safe manner in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable lawsRequired to work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with company Health and Safety and Other PoliciesCommunicate with engineering in order to fully understand sequence of operationDetermine requirements for design from quote and customer specificationsCreate electrical drawings, panel layouts, and engraved panels using AutoCAD Electrical to required standardsCreate electrical bill of material for purchasingProvide technical guidance to other Designers, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical departmentArrange for any inspections requiredUpdate AutoCAD Electrical drawings to reflect as-built changes as requiredEnsure that a complete and accurate set of final drawings are availableMentoring and reviewing Junior and Intermediate level electrical designers work.Other duties as assignedPosition Requirements (Knowledge, Skill, Ability):Should be proficient in the use of AutoCAD/AutoCAD ElectricalShould have practical experience in wiring panels and automated machineryMust understand the Ontario Electrical CodeMust have the ability to read, analyze and interpret written and verbal communications in the English languageMust be able communicate effectively with customersMust be able to work with others in a fast-paced environmentAutonomy and Authority:Receives instructions on specific assignments.Expected to work independently to complete electrical design package for individual panels and entire lines or machines according to established standardsComplex circuits or requirements referred to higher authority for guidance and review.Gives technical guidance to Technicians, Electricians and Apprentices with respect to electrical design issues and standardsEducation, Experience, and Qualifications:College or University degree in engineering or related disciplineA minimum of 8-12 years of electrical design experience -OR- machine and panel wiring experienceMust have a valid passport and driver’s license, as well as the ability to travel to customer sites both locally and internationallySpecial Requirements (physical demands and work environment):Must be able to work in all types of manufacturing environments (oil, dust, etc.)Frequent light and occasional moderate lifting may be requiredMust be able to sit for extended periods of time.
