Role Overview
Apply Department of Defense staff-writing expertise to help train and evaluate next-generation AI systems. You will create realistic documentation, reference responses, and evaluation materials that reflect federal reporting standards, operational context, and audience-appropriate communication. Prior AI experience is not required.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop structured prompts, input artifacts, and high-quality reference responses for DoD staff-writing tasks, including Weekly Activity Reports, Situation Reports, executive summaries, and performance reports.
- Create grading guidelines and rubrics for evaluating AI-generated outputs against DoD expectations for accuracy, tone, and compliance.
- Produce authentic report artifacts that reflect the style, structure, and language used in operational and administrative DoD documentation.
- Design and review test materials that assess AI capabilities in summarization and reporting work commonly performed by federal personnel.
- Participate in feedback cycles to refine prompts, reference responses, and grading rubrics based on project needs and model performance.
- Use back-office and communications experience to model weekly, monthly, and ad hoc reporting formats used by federal organizations.
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of relevant experience as a former federal contributor for the U.S. Department of War, Department of Defense.
- Experience producing Weekly Activity Reports, Situation Reports, executive summaries, and comparable standard reporting artifacts.
- Background in one of the six U.S. military branches. Experience across multiple roles and units is preferred.
- Strong military writing skills, knowledge of federal documentation standards, and experience with report development and evaluation rubric design.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to tailor language to the intended audience.
- Familiarity with back-office tools and processes, including creating and formatting PowerPoint briefings, memos, Excel summaries, and related documentation.
- Analytical ability to evaluate AI-generated staff-writing outputs and provide constructive feedback.
- Understanding of federal compliance requirements, reporting expectations, and DoD terminology and workflows.
Work Terms
- Independent contractor engagement.
- Remote role open only to candidates based in the United States.
Compensation
$40 to $80 per hour.
