b19 is partnering with an established power engineering company, looking to hire an experienced Electrical Distribution Engineer to execute overhead & underground line design projects for large Midwest electric utilities.
This is a remote position, but candidates must be based in or near the Chicago area to support local projects and occasional site visits.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop overhead and underground electric distribution systems (typically 4kV–35kV)
- Prepare construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates
- Perform pole loading, voltage drop, and fault current calculations
- Support system improvements, reliability upgrades, and new service connections
- Collaborate with project managers, field crews, and utility clients
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards (e.g., NESC, utility-specific guidelines)
- Conduct site visits and field assessments as needed
- Review and approve design packages for accuracy and quality
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 5+ years of experience in electric utility distribution design
- Strong experience with both overhead and underground systems
- Proficiency with design software such as Pole Foreman, O-Calc, Spida-Calc, AutoCAD, MicroStation
- Knowledge of industry standards including NESC and utility practices
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure
- Experience working with Midwest-based utilities
- Knowledge of GIS platforms and utility asset management systems
- Experience supporting storm hardening or grid modernization projects
