Overview
This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of spending three days a week in the office and two days remotely. Depending on location, a generous relocation package is available.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review construction sketches and details for overhead and underground network services (4 kV through 34 kV), structural analyses, short‑circuit and voltage‑drop calculations, bill of materials, cost estimates, and traffic‑control plans/permit drawings.
- Work on project teams with other engineers involved in the design of new upstream and midstream oil and gas facilities.
- Participate in Process Hazard Analysis and Design Reviews.
- Work directly with the client representative to ask and answer questions related to the distribution design.
- Analyze, design, or review priority feeds; support maintenance and recapitalization of distribution components.
- Plan system modifications and oversee complex tasks.
- Develop work packages and provide construction support when necessary.
- Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs.
- Develop your career via peer‑learning through S&L’s systems of process and associated “Communities of Practice.”
Qualifications and Skills
- This position requires a degree from an ABET‑accredited engineering program.
- Seven or more years of experience with electric‑utility distribution or equivalent, with ability to review work by others.
- Knowledgeable in physical distribution design methods and their application.
- Knowledgeable in applicable codes, standards, and distribution software programs including AutoCAD, ArcGIS, PoleForeman, etc.
- Familiarity with design codes and standards such as NESC, NEC, ANSI, IEEE, GIS/GWD.
- Experience with complex overhead and underground distribution projects (120/208 V through 34 kV).
- PLS CADD experience (highly preferred).
- Strong communication skills and ability to lead a project team.
Valued But Not Required
- Professional Engineering Registration or ability to obtain a PE within five years.
- Experience in utility distribution inspections and/or construction.
- Familiarity with various distribution design/analysis software and GIS software.
AI & Automation Expectations
- Lead others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost‑effective designs.
- Direct automation and process‑improvement work, including how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation while ensuring results are checked.
- Oversee engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks.
- Value additional learning such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that support effective oversight of automated workflows.

Compensation Range
$100,019 - $152,807
