Job Title: Senior DevOps Engineer

Contract Length: 6 Months (with potential for extension)

Location: Hybrid Remote | Onsite Tuesdays and Thursdays in Louisville, KY 40213

Overview:

We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to lead the reliability, architecture, automation, and operational excellence of a large-scale restaurant technology platform. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously improving infrastructure that spans cloud environments, Kubernetes platforms, edge computing systems, networking, mobile device management, CI/CD pipelines, and automation tooling.

This is a senior-level, hands-on engineering position requiring a strong generalist mindset. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable architecting cloud solutions, troubleshooting distributed edge systems, improving observability, automating operational processes, and driving reliability initiatives across the technology stack.

Responsibilities:

• Reliability & Observability
• Define and manage Service Level Objectives (SLOs), Service Level Indicators (SLIs), and error budgets
• Build and maintain monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions
• Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident reviews
• Establish reliability metrics and report on system health and performance
• Proactively identify and mitigate reliability risks
• Improve Mean Time to Detection (MTTD) and Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR)

Cloud Architecture & Infrastructure:

• Design and implement scalable, secure, and highly available cloud architectures
• Manage AWS infrastructure, including:
• VPC
• EC2
• ECS
• EKS
• Fargate
• Lambda
• IAM
• RDS
• S3
• Support Microsoft Azure environments
• Architect and manage Kubernetes deployments, including edge-based environments
• Design containerized and serverless solutions
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform
• Provide architecture leadership across cloud, edge, networking, and device infrastructure
• DevOps & Automation
• Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD
• Develop automation tools and operational workflows
• Create scripts and integrations using Python, Bash, Go, or similar languages
• Build internal tooling to reduce manual effort and improve operational efficiency
• Utilize AI-assisted development tools to accelerate troubleshooting, scripting, and documentation
• Promote an automation-first engineering culture
• Restaurant & Edge Technology
• Support Kubernetes-based edge platforms deployed across restaurant locations
• Manage and troubleshoot restaurant technology systems and deployments
• Support mobile application deployment and endpoint technologies
• Manage and optimize Mobile Device Management (MDM) platforms
• Configure and troubleshoot enterprise networking environments including switches and VLANs
• Participate in on-call support and operational incident response
• Security & Governance
• Establish cloud governance standards and architectural best practices
• Implement security controls including:
• Identity and Access Management (IAM)
• Encryption
• Network segmentation
• Secrets management
• Support DevSecOps initiatives and automated security controls
• Conduct security architecture reviews and risk assessments
• Identify vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, and compliance gaps
• Leadership & Collaboration
• Partner with engineering, DevOps, security, and operations teams
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship
• Develop runbooks, architecture documentation, and operational procedures
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements
• Drive continuous improvement across reliability, performance, security, and scalability initiatives

Required Qualifications:

• 6+ years of experience in IT infrastructure
• 3+ years of experience in:
• Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)
• Cloud Architecture
• Platform Engineering
• Cloud Infrastructure Engineering
• Strong hands-on AWS experience including:
• VPC
• EC2
• ECS
• EKS
• Fargate
• Lambda
• IAM
• RDS
• S3
• Working experience with Microsoft Azure
• Strong Kubernetes and container orchestration expertise
• Experience supporting edge computing or distributed environments
• Experience building and managing GitLab CI/CD pipelines
• Strong Terraform experience
• Enterprise networking experience including:
• Switch configuration
• VLAN configuration
• Network troubleshooting
• Experience with Mobile Device Management (MDM) platforms
• Scripting and automation experience using:
• Python
• Bash
• Go
