Alarm.com is the leading platform for intelligently connected properties.
Key Responsibilities
- Own product development end-to-end: Independently drive mechanical design of consumer electronics products from concept and industrial-design intent through detailed design, prototyping, and mass production.
- Lead large-assembly design: Architect and manage complex, multi-part 3D CAD assemblies, maintaining design intent, robust part relationships, and revision discipline across the full product.
- Build mockups and prototypes: Create mockups and functional prototypes to evaluate concepts, validate fit and function, and accelerate design iteration.
- Manage simulation and analysis: Plan and manage simulations and engineering analysis, assess risks and design options, and justify decisions against product and cross-functional requirements.
- Drive industrial-design integration: Manage ID discussions to balance and accommodate optical, acoustic, RF, usability, reliability, and operational-efficiency requirements across the full range of intended environmental conditions.
- Design for manufacturing across processes: Design and optimize parts for injection molding, die-cast metal, over-molding, silicone (LSR) injection molding, compression molding, double-shot/two-shot molding, CNC machining, sheet metal, die-cut, and stamped processes.
- Drive tolerance and DFX resolution: Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and lead resolution of DFM/DFA/DFX feedback to ensure manufacturable, reliable, cost-effective designs.
- Prepare manufacturing drawings: Produce detailed 2D drawings for manufacturing that capture critical dimensions, tolerances (GD&T), manufacturing methods, materials, finishes, colors, and all requirements necessary to produce quality products.
- Prepare BOMs, RFQs, and documentation: Prepare preliminary and detailed BOMs and RFQ packages, and document decisions, meeting minutes, research conducted, analyses and simulations performed, engineering assumptions and calculations, and risks with mitigation options.
- Engage vendors and partners: Work directly with tooling vendors and ODM/manufacturing partners across Asia to drive part quality, tool builds, and issue resolution through EVT, DVT, and PVT.
- Serve as the cross-site and cross-functional liaison: Act as the on-site mechanical point of contact for San Diego-based TPMs, EEs, FW, and Acoustics, and coordinate mechanical execution with the distributed ME team in Taiwan, DC, and Florida — ensuring the complete system meets product requirements and is validated and verified according to established engineering standards and methods.
