If you share our passion for beautiful cars, thrive on details, and want to be part of something extraordinary, this is your chance.Why You'll Love This Role:Design, release, and implement new parts and assemblies with supporting documentation to improve existing products in a manner that demonstrates, "Everything is Important."Be responsible for understanding requirements for new components or systems, designing to those requirements, and bringing those parts to production. This includes extensive work with carbon-fiber body panels and composite structures, which are core to Singer's reimagined Porsche 911 programs.What You'll Do:Conceptualize and create mechanical designs using CATIA V5 for new products used in late-model air-cooled PorschesUnderstand and design around packaging environment, mounting strategy, and load conditions of automotive components and systems, even with limited informationDesign, release, and validate carbon-fiber composite body panels, aerodynamic elements, and structural components, ensuring optimal stiffness, weight reduction, manufacturability, and fit within Singer's carbon-intensive vehicle architectureCollaborate with composite suppliers on layup strategy, tooling, curing processes, and quality requirements for carbon-fiber componentsPlan and execute part evaluations on vehicle, and component or system validation plans—including testing specific to composite behavior, bonding, and fastener interfacesInterface with and manage suppliers to execute project deliverablesCollaborate with global Design and Production Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and Production teamsPlan, execute, and initiate process improvement (such as Lean or Six Sigma)Evaluate existing drawings and 3D models of assemblies and processesDevelop testing processes, and perform testing and validation of new designsCreate working prototypes for first-article fit and function testingReview and approve 3D models and 2D drawings and specifications created by junior engineersComplete documentation to track project development and design processEnsure projects are on time and within budgetIdentify indicators for improvement and cost-reduction opportunitiesCreate product introduction materials: work instructions, exploded-view parts manuals, etc.Who We're Looking For:Bachelor's degree in mechanical or industrial engineering with automotive, mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering emphasisMinimum of 10 years of mechanical design & drafting experience using CATIA CAD softwareExperience in automotive industryExperience in engineering development process and design and release of components and systemsHands-on experience applying GD&T fundamentals and performing tolerance stack-ups for complex assembliesSome basic knowledge of carbon-fiber composite components. We are not looking for a carbon-fiber industry expert, this is an excellent opportunity to gain significant exposure and experienceBonus Points If You Have:Master's degree in mechanical or industrial engineering with automotive, mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering emphasisExperience and capabilities with surface modelingExperience with data management systemsKnowledge of air-cooled and turbo Porsche vehicles a plusExpertise in carbon-fiber composite components, including familiarity with layup methods, tooling, curing processes, and structural behavior of composite materialsLocation & Schedule:This is a salaried, exempt position onsite in Torrance, CA.
