Senior Database Administrator - 100% Remote
This role is with a leading global provider of credit intelligence, data, and analytics. The Senior Database Administrator will join the Platform team and manage cloud-based databases at an enterprise scale, with a focus on Postgres and MySQL and a strong understanding of the AWS ecosystem.

Responsibilities
- Deploy, configure, and manage PostgreSQL and MySQL in cloud-based environments (AWS), adhering to best practices for enterprise deployments. Optimize database configurations for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
- Implement and manage comprehensive database monitoring tools to track health and performance. Configure intelligent alerts for proactive issue identification and resolution.
- Troubleshoot and tune complex SQL queries for optimal performance.
- Develop and maintain robust backup and recovery strategies using AWS-native tools. Regularly test and refine procedures to ensure data integrity and minimize RTOs.
- Set up and manage replication strategies for high availability, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery. Implement replication methods (streaming, logical) based on requirements.
- Enforce cloud-native security measures, including IAM, encryption, and compliance controls. Stay current with AWS security updates and patches.
- Collaborate with development teams to design, optimize, and scale database schemas for enterprise applications. Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, slow queries, indexing issues, and resource utilization inefficiencies.
- Plan and execute complex database upgrades with minimal downtime and data integrity in mind. Stay current with AWS database releases and patches.
- Monitor database growth and performance trends; provide capacity planning and cost-optimization recommendations within AWS.
- Develop automation scripts for routine maintenance and administration tasks.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert for complex database solutions and mentor team members.
- Create and maintain documentation for configurations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Develop and test disaster recovery plans; conduct drills and simulations to ensure business continuity.
- Investigate and resolve complex, enterprise-scale database incidents; participate in Incident Management.
- Provide on-call support for production databases within SLAs.
- Share expertise and promote continuous learning within the team.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
- 6+ years of progressive DBA experience, with at least 4 years specializing in Postgres administration in enterprise environments.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience managing databases in AWS.
- Proven experience with large-volume OLTP databases at scale.
- Strong command of Linux commands and shell scripting for database administration and automation.
- Deep understanding of RDBMS principles and best practices for enterprise deployments.
- Thorough knowledge of database security best practices and compliance requirements (e.g., SOC2).
- Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical abilities, and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, driving projects to completion.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform is highly desirable.
- Experience with configuration management tools such as SaltStack, Ansible, or Chef is a plus.
- Strong understanding of the AWS ecosystem and its database services.
