The Role
As a Senior Data Scientist on the Veeva Compass Patient team, you will be a founding data scientist that owns the greenfield design methodologies and models that tackle large‑scale complex health data issues. Your responsibilities include:
- Tackle the unwinding of the "Super Patient" anomaly, a data‑merging challenge causing abandonment of high‑value clinical transactions.
- Build a support structure for a natural‑language search interface on top of medical and pharmacy claims data, enabling users to query data beyond traditional SQL‑like tools.
- Apply statistical, machine‑learning, and data‑mining techniques to large health data sets to build new products and methodologies.
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Analysts, Software Engineers, Data Engineers, and QA to deliver features from prototype to scale, then iterate and enhance.
- Build data‑science driven approaches to solve core business problems and conduct broader explorations to uncover unknown opportunities.
- Explore high‑volume data, identify signals and patterns, performing data cleansing, experiment design, solution assessment, and scaling analysis.
- Rapidly prototype product solutions, communicate findings, and iterate.
- Guide product improvements and testing plans by breaking objectives into prioritizable problems.
Qualifications
The candidate should have the following qualifications:
- 4+ years of hands‑on data science and statistics experience (or 2+ years with a Ph.D.) with increasing responsibility and impact.
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Applied Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, or another quantitative discipline.
- Fluent in Python.
- Experience with healthcare data, including prescription/medical claims, EHR, lab, specialty pharmacy, and copay data.
- Strong analytical skills and curiosity.
- Experience with large‑dataset frameworks such as Spark.
- Experience building production‑grade models that work with live data, including scaling, monitoring, and documentation.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and breaking goals into actionable work plans.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate statistical and computational concepts to audiences of varying technical levels.
- Ability to work independently and across internal teams.
- Experience in the life sciences industry (preferred).
- Software engineering experience in a production environment and in a commercial cloud environment.
Benefits
