Senior Data Engineer | GCP, BigQuery & Data Platform

I’m recruiting for a growing AdTech company looking for a Senior Data Engineer to take real ownership of its analytical data platform.

This is not a role where you inherit a perfectly organized warehouse and spend your time maintaining pipelines.

You’ll help define the architecture across the entire data lifecycle — from source ingestion and durable storage through BigQuery, data marts and business intelligence — while acting as the senior technical authority for how the platform evolves.

What you’ll be doing:

• Own and evolve a production GCP / BigQuery data platform
• Design scalable data models, warehouses and governed data marts
• Build production pipelines using Python, Apache Beam, Dataflow, Airflow and Cloud Composer
• Solve hard data problems around retries, idempotency, schema evolution, backfills and late or duplicate events
• Define trusted metrics used across product, finance and leadership
• Improve reliability, governance, security and cost efficiency across the data platform
• Turn ambiguous business needs into a practical technical roadmap
• Help shape the architecture for the company’s future data organization

What they’re looking for:

• Deep production experience with BigQuery and GCP
• Strong hands-on Python and advanced SQL
• Production experience with Apache Beam / Dataflow
• Strong Airflow / Cloud Composer experience
• Experience designing or materially rearchitecting cloud data warehouses and data lakes
• Strong understanding of data modeling, reliability and governance
• A track record of independently owning complex data-platform initiatives
• Ability to work across technical and non-technical teams and drive decisions without needing a large platform organization around you

Experience in AdTech, programmatic advertising or retail media is highly valuable, but it is not a hard requirement. Strong engineers from other high-volume event environments will also be considered.

Experience with Superset, dbt/Dataform, Terraform, CI/CD and data governance is also a plus.

This is a great fit for someone who wants to be the person designing the data platform rather than simply consuming it — with real influence over architecture, standards and the roadmap.

NYC Hybrid or US Remote

$160K–$190K base + equity
