Senior Data Engineer (Data Warehouse & BI Platform)The Senior Data Engineer (Data Warehouse & BI Platform) is responsible for the end-to-end design, development, and optimization of Stevens Transport's data warehouse architecture. This role will lead the transition from externally supported data platforms to an internally owned and scalable data ecosystem.This position requires deep expertise in data pipeline architecture, data modeling, and platform engineering, as well as the ability to work independently to build reliable, high-performance data systems. The Senior Data Engineer will partner closely with BI, analytics, and business stakeholders to ensure data is accurate, accessible, and structured for enterprise-wide consumption.This role is based onsite in Dallas, TX.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.Key ResponsibilitiesArchitect, design, and maintain the enterprise data warehouse, including layered data models (raw/bronze ? validated/silver ? curated/gold datasets)Lead the evolution of Stevens' data platform to reduce reliance on external consulting partnersEstablish scalable data architecture standards, governance, and best practicesOptimize data structures to support high-performance analytics and reportingDesign, build, and maintain robust, production-grade data pipelines that ingest data from internal and external systemsDevelop complex transformations, validations, and data integration workflowsEnsure data reliability, integrity, and consistency across all datasetsImplement monitoring, logging, and alerting mechanisms for pipeline healthLeverage modern data platforms including Microsoft Fabric, pipelines, and dataflows to support enterprise data needsBuild scalable solutions that support BI tools such as Power BI and semantic modeling with DAXCollaborate on the design of data models optimized for reporting and analyticsSupport version control, CI/CD processes, and deployment standards for data engineering workflowsDesign and implement integration strategies for legacy systems (e.g., AS400) into modern dataTranslate operational system data into structured, analytics-ready datasetsEnsure continuity and accuracy of historical and operational dataPartner with BI developers, analysts, IT, and business leaders to define data requirementsServe as a subject matter expert on data architecture and engineering best practicesProvide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members as the function scalesDrive continuous improvement in data quality, documentation, and engineering standardsFull ownership of data warehouse architecture and backend engineeringBuilding internally sustained data capabilitiesDriving data reliability, scalability, and performanceActing as a senior technical IC with strategic influenceQualificationsMinimum Qualifications:Advanced expertise in SQL for data transformation, modeling, and performance optimizationStrong experience designing and managing data warehouse architectures and ETL/ELT pipelinesHands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, including pipelines, dataflows, and data engineering capabilitiesExperience supporting BI tools such as Power BI and working with DAX for data modeling and reportingProven experience integrating and working with legacy systems such as AS400Strong understanding of data lifecycle concepts including ingestion, transformation, validation, and curationAbility to operate both independently and collaboratively in building reliable, high-performance data systemsPreferred Qualifications:Experience transitioning organizations from consulting-built platforms to in-house data ownershipExperience with cloud data platforms (Azure preferred) and distributed data processing frameworksExperience with Python, PySpark, or similar for data transformation workflowsFamiliarity with data governance, security, and compliance practicesExperience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain environmentsSkills & AbilitiesData ArchitectureSQL DevelopmentMicrosoft FabricPower BI & DAXData WarehousingETL / ELT PipelinesData ModelingLegacy System Integration (AS400)Data Quality & GovernanceAnalytical ThinkingProblem SolvingCommunication & CollaborationWork Experience7+ years of progressive experience in data engineering, data architecture, or analytics engineeringDemonstrated ownership of enterprise-scale data platforms (or equivalent combination of education and experience)EducationBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field (or equivalent experience)Physical DemandsProlonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computerAbility to work in an office environment at Stevens Transport HQ in Dallas, TXIn compliance with Federal and State equal employment opportunity laws, qualified candidates are considered for all positions without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, marital status, veteran status, non-job-related disability, or any other protected group status.
