About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Controller - Mortgage Servicing to lead enterprise accounting operations for a large, diversified real estate and mortgage services organization.

This is a senior finance leadership position with responsibility across accounting, financial reporting, month-end close, cash management, accounts payable, payroll, reconciliations, intercompany accounting, internal controls, audits, and technical accounting.

The ideal candidate brings deep mortgage servicing accounting experience , including exposure to Mortgage Servicing Rights (MSR), U.S. GAAP, investor reporting, MSR valuation, audits, and regulatory requirements .

This is not a general corporate Controller role. Direct mortgage servicing accounting experience is a core requirement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the enterprise accounting function across multiple entities and business operations.
  • Own timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes and financial reporting.
  • Oversee balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany accounting, bank reconciliations, cash flow management, AP, payroll, and disbursements.
  • Lead coordination with external auditors, valuation firms, lenders, and other financial stakeholders.
  • Oversee accounting and valuation processes related to Mortgage Servicing Rights (MSR) .
  • Ensure appropriate application and documentation of U.S. GAAP and technical accounting positions.
  • Support investor and agency reporting requirements, including Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Ginnie Mae .
  • Manage internal controls, audit readiness, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation.
  • Oversee debt reporting and lender covenant compliance.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, systems, and reporting.
  • Review contracts and business arrangements to determine appropriate accounting treatment and asset ownership.
  • Partner with senior leadership on budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and business performance.
  • Lead, develop, coach, and mentor the accounting organization.
  • Establish and improve accounting policies, procedures, documentation, and controls.
  • Present complex financial information and recommendations to executive stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or equivalent professional accounting certification.
  • 15+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • 10+ years of senior-level accounting experience specifically within mortgage servicing or a closely related mortgage-servicing financial-services environment.
  • Previous Controller-level experience with ownership of significant accounting operations.
  • Direct experience with Mortgage Servicing Rights (MSR) accounting and/or valuation.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP , financial reporting, internal controls, audits, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with investor/agency reporting involving Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and/or Ginnie Mae .
  • Demonstrated experience managing and developing accounting teams.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise accounting operations, cash flow, reconciliations, intercompany accounting, and financial controls.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting platforms such as SAP, Oracle, or equivalent systems .
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong financial analysis capabilities.
  • Strong executive communication, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Preferred Background

We strongly prefer candidates who have worked within large, institutional, or enterprise-scale mortgage servicing or financial-services organizations with complex multi-entity accounting, audit, regulatory, lender, and investor-reporting requirements.

Candidates whose experience is primarily within small community banks, small mortgage shops, mortgage brokers, or mortgage origination businesses will not be prioritized unless they can demonstrate directly comparable mortgage‑servicing scope and complexity.

Work Location Requirement

This is a hybrid position requiring approximately 3 days per week onsite .

Candidates must currently be based in, or be able to work from, one of the following markets:

  • Dallas, TX
  • Tampa, FL
  • Rosemont, IL

No relocation assistance is available.

Compensation

$175,000-$225,000 base salary , plus eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.
