Clinical and Patient Care Responsibilities

Examine, diagnose, and manage patients presenting with gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, pancreatic, and digestive system disorders.

Conduct outpatient consultations and provide inpatient care for patients admitted under Medical Gastroenterology.

Evaluate patients with conditions such as:

• Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
• Peptic ulcer disease
• Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
• Chronic liver disease and cirrhosis
• Hepatitis and other liver disorders
• Pancreatitis and pancreatic disorders
• Biliary tract disorders

Formulate appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic plans based on clinical assessment and investigations.

Provide consultation for complex and critically ill gastroenterology patients.

Coordinate with other specialties for multidisciplinary patient management.

Ensure appropriate admission, treatment, referral, and discharge planning.

Counsel patients and attendants regarding diagnosis, treatment options, prognosis, and preventive measures.

B. Endoscopic and Specialized Procedures

Perform diagnostic and therapeutic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy.

Perform colonoscopy and other lower gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures.

Perform endoscopic interventions within approved privileges and demonstrated competency.

Undertake procedures such as endoscopic variceal ligation, polypectomy, endoscopic haemostasis, and foreign body removal, as clinically indicated and within approved privileges.

Perform ERCP, EUS, and other advanced procedures only when appropriately trained, credentialed, and privileged.

Ensure informed consent before invasive procedures.

Ensure appropriate pre-procedure assessment, sedation safety, and post-procedure monitoring.

Maintain accurate endoscopy reports and procedure-related documentation.

Ensure compliance with endoscope reprocessing, infection control, and patient safety protocols.
