Job Description


Varmoda is hiring a Senior Computer Systems Engineer/Architect with 12+ years of experience and deep expertise in OpenShift to support mission-critical infrastructure within a government environment. The role requires advanced capabilities in systems engineering, cybersecurity, automation, virtualization, DevOps, and enterprise infrastructure management. The ideal candidate will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of highly available, secure, and scalable platforms while ensuring operational excellence across geographically distributed environments. This position also requires participation in a rotational on-call schedule to support 24x7 mission-critical operations.


Key Responsibilities



  • Monitor and optimize system performance and implement corrective actions on current platform(s).

  • Manage and maintain application integration leveraging current networking concepts including TCP/IP, routing, and firewalls.

  • Oversee and conduct regular cybersecurity vulnerability assessments and penetration testing.

  • Develop and maintain security incident response plans and procedures.

  • Develop and implement automation scripts and tools to streamline platform deployments, provisioning, and management tasks.

  • Deploy and manage machines with VMware, vCenter, Kickstart, Puppet, Foreman, and CIS-CAT.

  • Manage and configure host-based security systems.

  • Apply DevOps methodologies and tools, supporting Infrastructure as Code (IaC) within RHEL containers.

  • Use monitoring and logging tools, such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, IBM NetCool, and SolarWinds.

  • Patch and manage systems using Red Hat Satellite Server.

  • Provide hardware support for servers and workstations.

  • Support and maintain platform infrastructure in a mission critical environment.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned.


Required Qualifications



  • At least 12 years of experience in the related field.

  • At least 4 years of hands-on experience working with OpenShift.

  • Due to federal requirements, all candidates must be US Citizens without Dual Citizenship to another country.

  • This is an on-site position at a government facility.

  • Candidates must reside within a commutable distance.

  • Participation in a rotational on-call schedule for emergency page-outs is required.

  • Team player, fast learner with ability to work proactively and independently to support mission critical operations supporting geographically diverse locations.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience/knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure to manage, secure, and maintain the environment/platform infrastructure.

  • Experience with DevOps methodologies and Infrastructure as Code.

  • Experience with VMware, vCenter, Kickstart, Puppet, Foreman, and CIS-CAT.

  • Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, IBM NetCool, and SolarWinds.


Certifications & Clearance



  • Active Secret clearance is required.

  • US Citizenship is required; candidates with dual citizenship cannot be considered.
