Snapshot / Role Overview
We're seeking a Senior Chiller Technician in Austin, TX to provide expert-level maintenance, repair, and overhaul services for large-tonnage commercial and industrial chiller plants.
Impact
- Ensures the continuous operation of mission-critical cooling systems for major commercial and industrial facilities.
- Minimizes equipment downtime through expert diagnosis of complex mechanical and electrical failures.
- Extends the lifespan of high-value assets by performing precision overhauls and preventative maintenance.
- Mentors junior technicians and improves overall team technical capabilities through field leadership.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair large-tonnage centrifugal, screw, and reciprocating chillers.
- Perform comprehensive chiller teardowns, rebuilds, and compressor overhauls.
- Conduct leak detection on low-pressure systems and perform insulation resistance testing on motors.
- Diagnose and repair chiller starters, including Wye-Delta, AFD, VFD, and solid-state configurations.
- Service auxiliary equipment including cooling towers, boilers, pumps, and heat exchangers.
- Document all service activities, parts usage, and recommendations via digital work orders.
- Communicate technical issues and repair options clearly to facility managers and building owners.
- Interpret complex blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to resolve system issues.
- Adhere to strict safety protocols including lockout/tagout and confined space entry procedures.
Requirements
Must-Haves:
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in commercial or industrial HVAC service.
- Proven expertise in large-tonnage chiller systems and centrifugal compressors.
- EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and ability to pass a background check.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Manufacturer-specific training from Trane, York, Carrier, or Daikin.
- Experience with combustion analysis on commercial boiler systems.
- Proficiency with building automation systems and VFD programming.
