Salary Range: $120,000.00 to $140,000.00 Annually
Roles and Responsibilities
- Facilitate the material development of CPE-CBRN’s systems for the Expeditionary Medicine (Ex Med) end users on behalf of the Medical CBRD Detection Systems TDA/AEA.
- Analyze Ex Med requirements to investigate solutions, facilitate developmental tests, assess alternatives, and implement solutions for Ex Med medical systems in support of NSWC IHD’s TDA for PMS408.
- Observe test events and demonstrations for other (or new) technologies to evaluate their value to the Navy, or to facilitate their inclusion in or connection to existing Navy Program.
- Review and analyze technical publications, system drawings and programs within the Navy’s Chemical and Biological Defense portfolio.
- Complete required On the Job Training (OJT) for support as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for NSIS, NGDS1 and 2, and any future Medical Detection / Diagnostic Systems.
- Support the CB Detection and Ex Med TDA/AEAs on miscellaneous documentation, standards, and training as required.
- Familiarize with the Naval Surface Warfare Center’s CBR research projects and initiatives.
- Review, advise, analyze, collaborate and synthesize information and tasks required to support the Navy’s CBRD medical detection programs.
Required Skills and Education
- Ph.D. in Chemistry or Biology related field with minimum four (4) years experience leading and/or performing research and development in a government laboratory.
- M.S. in Chemistry or Biology related field with 6 years experience.
- B.S. in Chemistry or Biology related field with 10 years experience.
- The ability to lead multiple research efforts, successfully collaborate with other teams, and perform having team experience.
- Working knowledge in using analytical chemistry platforms including high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC/MS) to detect and quantify compounds of interest.
- Working knowledge of U.S. Government detection of chemical weapons and biological threat agents, including operational experience with the U.S. Navy.
- Working knowledge in the FDA market approval process.
- Working knowledge of the Forward Deployable Preventive Medicine Unit (FDPMU) requirements and operations for the detection of chemical and biological warfare threats.
- Working knowledge in biochemistry and molecular biology methodologies including PCR (various applications), microarray, molecular assays, next-generation sequencing.
- Working knowledge of CLIA regulations.
- First-hand experience performing clinical, diagnostic identification of microorganisms and chemical warfare agent detection in austere environments.
- Working knowledge of Biological Select Agent and Toxin (BSAT) regulations.
- Working knowledge of Word, Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
- This work requires the employee to drive a vehicle. A valid state driver’s license is required.
- Ability to plan and coordinate individual assignments to meet project goals.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
