Seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Prefect Cloud team in a full-time remote capacity, responsible for owning distributed systems, applying query-engine expertise, and leading operationally mature work to scale the platform from millions to billions of tasks per day. Key responsibilities Own and maintain distributed systems, APIs, and services to ensure platform reliability at scale Apply expertise in query engines and data processing to optimize planning, execution, and observation of work across the platform Lead projects without a dedicated PM, shaping problems and solutions based on product and customer context Required qualifications Senior-level experience in back-end or systems engineering with a focus on large-scale distributed systems Proven experience in designing or extending query engines, analytical databases, or distributed data-processing runtimes Strong fundamentals in computer science and distributed systems, including concurrency and fault tolerance Proficiency in production Python or similar programming languages such as Rust, Go, or Java Experience using AI-powered engineering tools effectively in development processes
