If you need someone to tell you what to do next on your cases, this isn’t your job. If you already know what to do next and you’re tired of waiting for everyone else to catch up, keep reading.
Who we are
O’Connor Family Law is a fast-growing Massachusetts firm focused on divorce and custody litigation. We have offices in Westborough and Hanover, and most of our attorneys work a hybrid schedule.
Our clients come to us at one of the hardest points in their lives. When they leave, they tell us we were refreshingly different. We explained things in plain English, told them the truth, made them laugh when they needed it, and treated their case like it was the most important one we had. To them, it is.
Every decision we make runs through C.H.A.N.G.E.: Courage, Honesty, Ambition, Navigation, Growth, and Empowerment. We use those values to hire, to run cases, and to hold each other accountable.
The role
You’ll own a full family law caseload from first consult to final judgment: divorce, custody, support, property division, modifications, and contempts. Owning a case means:
- Building the strategy and driving it, rather than letting opposing counsel set the pace
- Drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery that move cases forward instead of just keeping them open
- Appearing in Probate and Family Court for hearings, pretrials, and trials, fully prepared
- Updating clients before they have to ask, explaining the process plainly, and telling them what they need to hear even when it isn’t what they want to hear
- Mentoring junior attorneys and paralegals by example
- Telling us when you see a better way to do something, then helping us build it
You’re probably a great fit if:
- You have 3+ years of family law litigation experience in Massachusetts and are licensed and in good standing here (a plus if also barred in either RI or NH)
- You’re as effective at the negotiating table as you are on your feet in court, and you know which one a case actually needs
- You can read a financial statement and understand the story it’s telling, including complex business and self-employment income
- You manage your own calendar, deadlines, and follow-up without anyone reminding you
- You can be direct with a client in crisis without being cold
- You treat a stalled case as your problem to solve, not something to report
- You’re comfortable with practice management software and modern legal tech
- You've been told you make complex issues easy to understand
- You're looking for a firm where you can choose your advancement path to partner with either a litigation or leadership focus
This probably isn’t the right fit if:
- You want someone else to set your priorities
- You need sign-off before every next step
- You think client communication belongs to the paralegal
- You're not able to emotionally handle tough issues like abuse, narcissism, parental alienation, etc.
- You’re looking for a place to coast. We’re growing fast, and growth takes work.
What you get
- Compensation: $110,000 to $160,000, plus bonus structure and sign-on bonus, depending on experience
- A full support team handling intake, billing, HR, and administration, so your time goes to practicing law
- A legal support team consisting of a paralegal and supervising attorney or partner
- After the onboarding process, a flexible hybrid schedule built on trust, because we hire people who don’t need to be micromanaged
- Benefits subject to eligibility: A 401(k) match, health insurance reimbursement, life insurance, long-term disability, student loan reimbursement, sick and paid time off, MCLE membership, bar dues, mileage reimbursement
- Real ownership of your cases, plus a voice in how a growing firm builds itself
- Colleagues who care as much as you do and will have your back
How to apply
