Role Overview

Senior Applications Engineer – San Jose, CA. Responsible for translating advanced materials research into practical hardware solutions, collaborating closely with engineering leadership and customers to deliver reliable, high‑performance products.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Execution: Lead day‑to‑day engineering tasks, experiments, and project deliverables aligned with the Director’s strategy.
  • Hands‑On Assembly & Testing: Perform physical assembly, bonding processes, and performance testing of diamond‑based materials.
  • Data & Reporting: Collect, analyze, and document technical data, providing actionable insights for customers and executive updates.
  • Problem Solving: Serve as the primary troubleshooter, resolving technical challenges that arise during development.
  • Cross‑Functional Support: Coordinate between internal engineering teams and external customer requests to maintain project alignment.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of hands‑on hardware engineering, product assembly, or materials testing.
  • Core Skills: Proven ability to work in a lab or testing environment with physical hardware and materials.
  • Adaptability: Flexible mindset; able to translate high‑level direction into actionable daily tasks.
  • Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with leadership and teammates.

Physical Requirements

  • Use appropriate PPE and follow all safety policies.
  • Sit, stand for long periods, walk, grasp, reach, lift below and above shoulders, bend, twist, climb, balance, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, talk, hear, see, use fine finger manipulation, and complete repetitive motions.
  • Use ladders or stairs as needed.
  • Use foot controls and drive as required.
  • Lift, carry, or push/pull up to 50 lbs.
