About the Role

Senior AI Engineer – responsible for advancing Amplitude’s AI products and the foundations they are built on. The role blends deep technical work with product judgment, shipping AI capabilities that customers and internal teams rely on.

What You'll Do

• Ship high‑impact AI features and products that influence how customers and internal teams work.
• Design and build foundational infrastructure for Amplitude’s AI systems: orchestration, evaluation, retrieval, context management, and ecosystem integrations.
• Identify opportunity areas by understanding user workflows, customer pain points, and emerging AI capabilities.
• Establish reusable patterns, primitives, and components for other engineers to build AI features confidently.
• Drive adoption and quality through collaboration with product, design, and customer‑facing teams, focusing on real usage and measurable outcomes.
• Set technical direction for AI systems, making thoughtful build‑vs‑buy decisions, shaping evaluation strategy, and influencing the long‑term roadmap.

Who You Are

A highly capable engineer with a strong track record of shipping AI‑powered systems that people use. You bring deep technical instincts, strong product sense, and a forward‑thinking view of AI.

Experience & Skills

• 3+ years of software engineering, including 2+ years building production LLM or applied AI systems.
• Experience designing and scaling AI products, platforms, or developer tools with real users and reliability constraints.
• Deep familiarity with modern AI ecosystem: model APIs, agent frameworks, evals, retrieval, prompting, tool use, and tradeoffs.
• Strong product sense and systems thinking; knowing when to prototype, harden, or invest in durable infrastructure.
• Excellent communication and collaboration, driving alignment across engineering, design, product, and go‑to‑market.

Salary and Equity (Colorado): $190,000–$286,000 total target cash.

Salary and Equity (New York City): $211,000–$316,000 total target cash.

Salary and Equity (California, Bay Area): $211,000–$316,000 total target cash.
