Job Description
The Senior Accounts Payable Specialist will perform complex accounts payable activities for a local government organization, supporting accurate, timely, and compliant payment processing. This role will serve as a senior resource within the AP function, handling escalated invoice issues, vendor inquiries, reconciliations, payment processing, and financial documentation.
- Review, verify, code, and process high-volume invoices and payment requests
- Perform purchase order matching and account reconciliations
- Research and resolve invoice discrepancies, payment issues, and outstanding transactions
- Serve as a primary contact for vendor and internal department payment inquiries
- Process vendor payments through checks, ACH, and other approved methods
- Support month-end and fiscal year-end close activities and audits
- Maintain compliance with accounting, purchasing, and internal control procedures
- Provide guidance to AP staff and identify opportunities to improve processes and workflow efficiency
