Senior Accounting Associate – Leading Commercial Real Estate / Mortgage REIT

New York, NY | Hybrid (4 Days in Office) | Up to $120K Base + 15–20% Bonus

Our client, a growing New York-based commercial real estate investment platform, is seeking a Senior Accounting Associate to join its expanding Mortgage REIT accounting team. This is an excellent opportunity to join an established investment platform and gain broad exposure to the accounting and financial operations of a sophisticated real estate portfolio.

The position will play an integral role across loan, debt, and joint venture accounting, with significant involvement in financial reporting, cash management, investor reporting, and audit processes. The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams and gain hands-on exposure to multiple areas of the business, offering an excellent opportunity for continued professional development and career growth.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee and support accounting activities across commercial real estate loan portfolios, debt facilities, and joint venture investments.
• Assist with the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reporting packages.
• Manage cash activity, including transaction processing, cash reconciliations, and monitoring of loan-related activity.
• Prepare and maintain bank reconciliations, general ledger entries, and supporting schedules.
• Support investor reporting, capital activity, and related financial deliverables.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external service providers to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Assist with year-end audits, tax processes, and other financial reporting requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting procedures, reporting processes, and operational efficiency.

Qualifications:

• 2–5 years of accounting experience within public accounting, private industry, or an investment management environment.
• Exposure to commercial real estate, mortgage REITs, real estate funds, or real estate clients is highly preferred.
• Strong public accounting candidates with relevant REIT or real estate client experience will also be considered.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• CPA or active progress toward CPA certification strongly preferred.
• Experience with Yardi, MRI, or other real estate accounting platforms is a plus.
• Strong technical accounting, analytical, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Base Salary up to $120,000, depending on experience.
• 15–20% annual bonus.
